Hey guys,
I’ve been desperately trying to find a similar knocking that I’m dealing with on here but I couldn’t…
After I turned on my car I started hearing this knocking sound from the engine (https://youtube.com/shorts/SNT4DkIyi...rcCcnlYoSCkXKO ). The strange thing is that this noise is more present from the inside of the car than from the front when the engine hood is open. Another strange thing is that you can hear the knocking perfectly from the exhaust which leaves me wondering what it could be. https://youtube.com/shorts/Ilq3SHDth...joClY7J3VIMvH7

I changed my oil (Motul 5w40) 4 months ago and drove around 13k km (8k miles). I never had any hydraulic lifter ticking and I think it sounds different as well.
I was going to replace most of the problematic seals this week (valve cover gasket, oil filter housing, valvetronic etc.), so there might be a causation between these leaks and the knocking.

I could imagine it being related to failing DISA flaps but I didn’t have any error codes so that leaves me wondering if it’s something more serious like a loose timing chain or so.

Id be super happy for any idea or anyone that has dealt with the same problem.

UPDATE:
Went to the mechanic and turns out it’s just one faulty ignition coil 😂runs perfectly fine again

Seems engine speed related, try to run it without the serpentine belt to rule out ac compressor and ancillaries, but being you able to hear it from the exhaust I don't think it'll go away... failed lifter/stuck valve? I wouldn't drive it honestly, open up the valve cover for inspecting and turn the engine by hand clockwise to see if there's something wrong on the head side

At or manual? Could be the also the DMF failing

dmf sound, seems similar

Thanks for the reply.
I didn’t drive it after 😅 just left it where it is…
It’s a manual N52k 2.5l from Germany. Mileage is about 145k km (90k miles)

Noticed the post indicates the oil was changed 4 months ago and it's been driven 8k miles? What's the level and condition of the oil?
