N52 with Velocity Stacks (throttle body+maf deleted)

Just got the velocity stack prototype in. Will have it on the dyno hopefully by next week and share some numbers. Sounds pretty cool Filter panel and cold air feed will be added later.

What's the plan for the failsafe if valvetronic fails? That's what the TB is used for. How does it drive?

I would just turn the car off. I have yet to see a full valvetronic failure, I'm not worried about it.

It needs to be tuned to drive properly, which will be done on the dyno likely next week. There are two other guys with homemade cut manifolds that 22rpd tuned that are daily driving them for awhile now with no issues. It'll drive good with the tune 🙂

Raimund,

How did you get these? The ends could be theoretically shrunken down to port match the s54 m3 intake manifold. If someone could make an adapter to fit the n52 throttle body as well, we could run the s54 intake manifold without having to mess around with itb’s and the problems associated with such ie. (mounting, programming etc.).

The eccentric shaft sensor failure is very common, it's happened to me on both of my E9x cars. It locks the car at full lift and uses the TB for throttle control. In that situation, you can't just "turn off the car"

The issue has always been finding a solution to having the failsafe and not actually making it run. Curious to see what it will put down, I've seen 255+/- but I'm sure it would be more with the MILVS and a better set of headers and exhaust,

Hey Ryan,
These are being developed by 22RPD, my car is being used for testing.

What you suggested would probably be possible too

I have a new oem eccentric shaft sensor. But maybe the dme fail safe mode can be modified to not go full lift through tuning.

I will post results on dyno hopefully next week

Very cool. Do you have a before dyno so the gains from the ITBs can be seen?

I wonder if you could fab something like these up for the filter vs using one large filter over all of the ITBs:

vs.

Shame to hide the ITBs! But if you want a 'cold' air feed not many options.

edit: Are you going to play around with different lengths of trumpets etc inside the box?

"What if, what if", don't kill the vibe in a friendly way...
I don't think the OP is particullary concerned about that if he modified that way his engine, if his valvetronic will fail hell'shut off the engine as he said and repair it The engine start button should cut off the fuel pump as well, doesn't it?

Cool build and awesome sound, keep us updated

It'll just sit on the rev limiter if the valvetronic fails...until it's shut off by pressing the start/stop button as usual. Not ideal, but hardly an issue since he knows what might happen and what to do about it. I'd far prefer that over the prospect of a diesel runaway, that's for sure!

Hey Torgus!
I attached of photo of the design for a filter panel. Individual ones could be made too, or run socks, but they would make less power.

I did do a baseline dyno and am keeping everything the same and re-dynoing with the trumpets, and then again with a custom tune for them.

I attached the current dyno. Keep in mind this is an automatic transmission car with more drivetrain loss. There is an issue with the exhaust merge placement which you can see that midrange dip from. I'll be redoing the exhaust after we get the velocity stacks dyno.

As for playing with runner lengths, we may be testing different lengths, I forget what the consensus was on that.

This is incredible. Brings me so much joy to see our measly N52 with velocity stacks, just like a "real" BMW.

This looks and sounds great, are you looking at a CSL style carbon intake to go with it ?

Subbed and excited to see where this goes.

Just found this and it makes me VERY excited! I have been wanting ITBs on the N52, purely for the sound they make. This is even better since I think Valvetronic is super cool. Does the tune that they are developing run in AlphaN mode? I would think it would have to. Just wondering if it will make dailying the car not feasible.
