e90 Died on Road Won't Start

My Son's 2006 330i died at a stop light and won't start. The starter does rotate the engine, but it won't try to start.

He had a BlueDriver dongle with him and ran a scan, so he sent the results to me.

We installed a new pressure regulator/sending unit, because it was leaking fuel, about three weeks ago.

Please check out the attached scan results and reply with any suggestions you may have.

Includes code 6294, which is low voltage for fuel pump.

The car will be towed to my house today.

Thank you,

Bill

Any lights on the dash? Was the voltage regulator ever replaced?

When the wrecker brought the car to me, the battery was dead. I charged the battery and it started. I don't know if he left the lights on after it died, or if the battery was dead when he had the problem.

I'll check it tomorrow and we'll see what is up with it.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but...

When you get it running, I would suggest looking at the voltage via the hidden gauge cluster menu. It should show 13.5V-14.5V, if it reads less, the voltage regulator is likely toast and is not charging the battery properly during driving.

Make sure you get a new Bosch unit and you can install yourself. Just beware to disconnect both battery cables to avoid accidentally grounding the positive wire to the alternator with your wrenches.

This ^

Sounds like bad charging system or battery, to me.

Does that regulador works with a non-Bosh alternator?

I'm asking because I'm also willing to replace it for my 06 330i preventively but in FCP doesn't include the 330i in the fitment section. I think the alternator might be Valeo.

I believe you need a valeo reg for the valeo alternator, but could be wrong!

You said in FIRST post that "The starter does rotate the engine". If the Starter "Cranks" the engine, but the engine does NOT fire, the cause is NOT a low battery. Eight hours later, you say "the battery was dead" when the wrecker delivered car to house.

What was the battery voltage (and WHERE measured) BEFORE you charged it?
What was the battery voltage AFTER you charged it?
What was the system voltage with the engine running after it started?
Why did you "Cross-post" to Bimmerfest and why haven't you posted updates there or HERE?

It would appear that you have NOT identified WHY: (1) the engine "died at a stop light" and (2) did NOT restart (presumably "Crank, NO Start"). The codes you posted (at least on Bimmerfest) are NO help AFAIK. Got any "Live Data"? Hope YOU can make some sense of the posts/issue(s), and enlighten us.

I had similar situation with 12 years old battery.

It would crank but i think it did not reach minimum revolutions to start the engine (slow cranks).

Charging to full was not really solution. Charging from dead to full in 25 minutes and it would last only 3 starts.

Bought 95AH AGM battery (+coding), that charged for more than a day and it's been 7 years working fine.
