Well Thanks

So, a few days ago I made a comment on a thread about how amazing a Porsche GT3 is.
And how I lost mine through a divorce.
Wasn’t looking for a pity party or anything, it was just a passing comment.

But here’s the thing, a bunch of folks chimed in and were really supportive and genearlt really cool about it.

Full disclosure I just spent a month going through the illness and death of a grandfather. And those few comments of support about a divorce that happened over a decade ago really made my day.

So I just wanted to thank everyone in here, somehow a conversation about an M2 Ugly duckling, and a GT3 led to a couple comments that made my week a whole lot better.

So Thanks gang!!!

That is all.

That's the thing about the internet, you never know what the person on the other side is going through...

I'm happy you felt supported here. And a bit sad I can't give you a hug in person. Maybe one day, although I get the feeling your island is the farthest we can get from my island in Canada.

Thanks for sharing man. And again, glad you're doing ok. Life throws us some curve balls.

Internet is the weirdest place. Mostly filled with insensitive trolls and people who are willing to just be snarky for no reason...and then randomly you get these little acts of kindness that make your day.

But i also think it depends on the forum, this forum specifically i felt has always been very supportive of each other. Maybe it's the fact that we all got the baby M or something, but it's been very similar to the GT4 forum that i was on. Just all around good vibes. The GT3/M3/M4 forums? Cant stand them lol.

Anyways glad you are feeling better OP.

Divorce sucks end of story, especially for men. They end up losing more than half of their stuff when you include kids, friends, former home etc. There really is no upside for men getting married anymore when there's more than 60% chance you lose almost everything you've worked for and have to start over. Starting over isn't as hard when you're young but when in your 40s, that's a big hill to climb to recover.

Freaking huge!! I still can’t believe I made through to the other side. It was rough at first and for a while I checked out. Ended up traveling a bit and re assessing my life. Was sketchy for a minute. Than I met a “good” woman. One who actually was supportive. Changed my life!

I feel like traveling alone is something that so many people need to experience in their lives at least once. It's super scary initially, but it's sooooo freeing once it happens. Glad to see you come out the other end for the better.

Yes, everyone should travel alone once. It’s a huge thing to be on your own, to just be.

I’ve owned a few vehicles in my day and I’ve always heard of this connotation that BMW owners are douche bags, but now that I’ve been part of the community for a few years I think the BMW community is probably the best car community I’ve been a part of. At the very least, I believe BMW owners are one of the smartest communities out there. I’m looking at adding a new 2024 Tacoma to the garage and my goodness that community is filled with trolls and entitled morons. Lol you’d think it be the complete opposite, but just goes to show that things don’t always seem as they appear.

I’m not sure you’ll appreciate this comment but be wise about a Taco! I’ve had 2 and man those things don’t live up to the hype! #1 needed a new frame, and was never the same again. #2 and I can’t believe this had to have 3 manual transmissions replaced. 3!!! Toyota just charges way too much for the perceived value of the Taco. I have a Jeep Gladiator now, and it’s been fantastic.

I always appreciate feedback from an owner, so thanks for that! Yeah I am also skeptical of the new powertrain but right now it’s on the top of my list. I haven’t seriously considered the Jeep, but I may go check one out now to see how it might fit my needs.

The Gladiator is a good truck, but keep in mind it rides well Like a Truck! Solid front and rear axel, meant for off-roading first, and everything else second. I’m driving a Rubicon, on 35’s lifted 3” and setup to do stuff. But I guess my last two Tacos just left me disappointed. The new Nissan looks good, I haven’t been in one. And I have a new Ineos Grenadier on order. So that’s my next rig.

It's been my experience that any G87 thread NOT on the front page of Bimmerpost is usually pretty great. Conversely, any thread on the front page is a raging dumpster fire.

And it's not just the G87 forums, G42 was much the same. Probably all of them.

Anyway, I'm glad you got through your life setbacks. Remember there are always vocal haters, but there are also always bystanders who are wishing you well, even if they forget to say it aloud.

Exactly. I'm glad these words of encouragement help easy the pain of the past. There's a silver lining to everything & many things are a blessing in disguise.

For example. If the G80 M3 were more attractive in the face I would've gotten it. But it wasn't & still isn't. So I bought the X3 M instead don't regret the choice I made at all.

These types of forums are the last standing communities from the idealistic internet I fell in love with in the 90s.

Like minded people in a niche community coming together to share and help each other. I've also met people IRL from the F87 forum and they were super cool too.

You just don't get that same sense of community anywhere else. Not on Facebook, Discord, Twitter, Instagram, or any modern social platform.

Anyway, sorry to hear about your grandfather. You give me hope that I may yet find a good woman.

This is my favorite forum. I visited even while I was between BMWs.

I think vehicle enthusiasts for the most part can be pretty great people. And I’m on a few forums where people can be really great. Certainly gives hope in this shit show of a world we live in.
