2D5F code, engine stuttering HELP

Hello everyone;

I'm stumped chasing a problem with my daughters '06 330i E90. First the engine develped a valve train tick, which I thought was a sticky lifter, but then a day later the car started another issue. When accelerating somewhere around 1/2 throttle (intermittent and not all the time) the engine looses power, like it has stalled, and it is like the tranmission missed a shift. At first it gave me code to do with the DISO valves. I have changed those as well as the VANOS. I also bought a Carley scanner. All the codes have cleared and now all I have is 002D5F code as well as 009CBD and 009CBE (which I believe is the do do with her passenger headlight which is broken). Now the problem is worse and difficult to drive. I can switch to manual shifting and if I keep the RMP under 2000 it drives nice, but no decent acceleration. And today it left her stranded and was difficult to get going at normal driving speed. When we bought it I scanned it using the OBD tool i had at the time (Bluedriver) which is not BMW specific but I've found it to be reliable at reading codes. There were no codes then and we drove it 2 hours home without issue or engine lights.

Anyone have any ideas?

Difficult to determine with just the information provided. Is there any other info related to the 2DF5 code from the scanner?

Could have some water affecting electronics maybe. I just had to do my sunroof drains because passenger side was clogged and had been leaking water all on that side for at least two months. Fortunately, I managed to figure it out before the water caused more electrical problems.

Does it list any more info for the codes you're getting? Can the scanner reset adaptations?

Sorry no other information on the scanner.

And today I took off the ECU housing, checker all the comnections. Then took off the valve cover, checked everything (by check I mean made sure no broken pieces). Found nothing and put it back together. Code went away and runs great now. Only other thing I did was to clean off the eccentric shaft sensor. Time will tell if it comes back.

I'm frankly stumped and I'm wondering if it's an electrical component.

Glad to hear it went away haha. Do you mean cleaning the oil out of the interconnect for the eccentric shaft sensor (where it connects on the VC)?

No I cleaned off the old oily gunk off the sensor. I was checking for any obvious signs it was broken ie cracks or delamination.

Roger that! Well something you did fixed it. It could have been the gunk on that sensor as it is involved with timing. When I changed my VC and gasket I cleaned that interconnect really well as it had some oil building up down in the connector. Hope it stays running smooth for you!
