Faded Steering Wheel Fix

My 2011 sport steering wheel has been showing its age. After looking for alternatives in the Toronto area (US has much more affordable options): new wheel from BMW $1,500, having a shop properly replace the leather $700, mobile refinishing $300 + a week without my car, stitching a poor fitting cover $80 or refinishing it myself using a kit from Amazon $65) I decided to try it myself since I had time over the Christmas break.

The only reputable option available in my market was Geist Steering Wheel Restoration Kit, but there are other similar kits offered from ColourLock and others.

Since I had a donor wheel, the task was fairly easy and quick. There are many instructional videos online that gave me the confidence to try this and I am truly blown away by the end results.

The finish looks and feels similar to my 2023 X3 (not as squishy). Time will tell if the colour will last, but I wanted to share this alternative to the stitched wheel covers as I expect this will be a faster and better looking repair for the DIY audience.
