Cruise/Distance Control or Assisted Driving w/ Sunglasses

OK, I’ve had my XM for a couple of weeks now and live in the Dallas Metro plex…so at least 50% of my driving is on a highway of some sort.

Over the years I’ve come to terms with my need to use Cruise Control to help keep me out of trouble. You would think that the XM with the suite of Assisted Driving features would serve those purposes. But NO…it’s not the case. I almost always wear sunglasses when driving for multiple reasons (light sensitivity being one) but I can’t seem to activate any of the Assisted Driving functions without the system giving me warnings and shutting off the feature (much less filling my Control Screen with warnings) because it can’t see my eyes.

What am I missing? How TF do I activate and utilize these features while wearing sunglasses? It can’t be that complicated…any guidance on what I need to do to use Cruise/Distance/Assisted while wearing sunglasses?

I seem to remember a BMWBlog video on assisted driving where they showed that sunglasses had no effect on it working. Are your lenses polarized?

Not polarized; I stopped wearing polarized sunglasses when I started driving vehicles with HUD.

Going slightly OT, I wish that sales people would warn customers when they purchase cars with HUD about this issue. One of my best friends had purchased an M240i and then unaware of the restriction went out and bought a pair of Maui Jim's that are only made with polarized glass. It was a final sale type of deal that was not returnable and he is now stuck with the sunglasses.
