Limp Mode during Track Night Codes P0299, 2042A, P0425, P0101
2011 335D 240K miles, only mod is EGR valve turned off (pin removed) after CBU cleaning 12/24/2018 about 6 years and 54k miles ago.
During track night a Sebring yesterday the car went into limp mode on my fith lap. Oil temp was 190 degree , I let it cool off for an hour, no more Limp Mode, second session went into Limp Mode at Turn 2 Blue Drive code reader indicates: P0101=Mass Air Flow 2042A = Catalyist Temp Sensor Bank 1 Sensor 2 20425 = Catalyist Temp Sensor Bank 1 Sensor 1 p0299 = Underboost Condition/ Turbo Boost Sensor Woudl like to here what the community thinks the problem actually is? Mass air sensor was replaced in 2017 I have a good local mechanic who diagnosed a fuel rail sensor when first got the car in 2018 at 175K. No more Limp Mode at start up today. Any help is greatly appreciated.. |

Did you solve the issue? My guess would have been that the first three codes came after the last code and the boost issue was caused by either a crack on the pressurized side of the intake plumbing or an issue with one of the turbos. What did you find out?

Limp Mode
I have not resolved the Limp Mode issue.
I cleared codes to see what came back first.. P2009 Underboost Condition. My prior Local Mechanic is MIA. Blue Driver Code Reader suggest: 1) Replace Air Intake 2) Replace boost Sensor 3) Replace wastegate vacuum actuator I dont want to start throowing $$ parts at it. Was going to try the boost senso but have not found the part number yet? Was hoping to get some help from the community, but you are the only response. Thanks. Planning to get under it to check the boost hose... |

I finally got the car up on my ramps yesterday and low and behold the band clamp connecting the rubber inter cooler hose to the aluminum intake pipe was broken and the hose and pipe no longer connected (Low boost). I removed the intercooler and the entire intake tube, reconnected the hose and intake pipe with a 2.5 inch screw clamp.....viola no more limp mode. I only hope the screw clamp holds. For Inquiring Minds: I reasearched the 335D on this forum, prior to purchase. I wanted a car to check 5 boxes: 1) Under $10k (paid $8k) 2) Trackable, been round Sebring International, PBIR, drag strip, autocrossed 3) Gas mileage (I was driving 100 miles a day) 4) Modern comforts: blue tooth, navigation, (its fully loaded) 5) Fun to drive (The 3 series is the ultimate driving machine) It had 175K on it when I got it in 2018 so yes, I did CBU myself, fuel rail presure sensor, replaced vaccum lines, shocks , struts, glow plugs, rebuilt the alternator, recently added a trailer hitch. Air Bags are next Since the D was in limp mode, I had to drive my 5.3L 2005 GMC (300 hp, 315 ft lbs), pulling my 12 ft utility trailer and two motorcycles to the Smoky Mountains last week. Got 12 mpg, and had to floor it to climb mountain passes. I dragged the same trailer behind the 335D last year to Ohio and back to FL with one motorcyle, got 25 mpg, and flew through the montains like the trailer was not even there. If and when I wear out this 335D, I will be looking for another one. The 335D is TRULY the ultimate driving machine. I would like to do the ABC's and should have in 2020 when Andrew Rodriques was still in business... Will see what the futuree holds, Flight 335D is back to crusing altitude ! |

The electronic solenoids the vac lines go to. When you decide to delete im in central ga and can help if you need assistance, done quite a few. Glad it was an easy fix. Put hairspray on the inside of the silicone piping and clamp they wont come loose.

Yeah, I thought of using hair spray but I was in a hurry. That is an old motorcycle grip trick, also worked on my Pod filters for my ZRX. Would love some help with future proofing the D, only one of my def tanks works...a bit of oil in the intercooler, worried my turbo may be getting worn out? Have started looking for another 335D. Currently researching air bags for towing a trailer and my ZRX... PM me if you are serious about helping with ABC's PM me |
