07 328i, crank, no start after DME/CAS/Key replacement.
Hello all,
My 07 (11/06) 328i was purchased with an ELV error- red steering lock prevented DME communication and wouldn’t crank or start. After resetting the stock DME/CAS, car worked perfectly, until I lost the key. I had a locksmith jump the green/red tracer wire in the trunk to positive, and we attempted to write a new key to the car- which was unsuccessful and rendered the DME faulty. I have now put in a new DME/CAS from an 07 (01/07) car. The car cranks, but does not start. In addition, I also cannot get the steering lock to release. I get these codes: 002ACC 002ACB 002E85 Digital Motor Electronics (DME), DME master relay, shift delay Digital Motor Electronics (DME), DME master relay, activation BSD (Bit-Serial Data Interface), message; electric coolant pump, missing 002A9A Digital Motor Electronics (DME), crankshaft - intake camshaft, synchronization ABS-DSC (ABS-Dynamic Stability Control-Bosch) 005DE0 Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), brake pad wear, plausibility, front axle 005DD2 Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), hydraulic unit, adjustment, DSC unit (valves) There are some other codes in other modules that I did not take pictures of. The old CAS had software 09.3, the new has 12.2. Both are C3. The new DME/CAS is from a comfort access car, the original is not a comfort access car. Here are the options of both vehicles and the options they do not share: Original car: 1CA 205 240 249 319 403 430 431 441 459 488 494 4AB 4NA 521 534 544 563 5GA 639 676 693 694 818 8SP 925 ZPP New DME/CAS 1CA 205 240 249 319 403 430 431 441 459 465 488 494 4AB 4NA 502 521 534 544 563 5GA 609 620 639 676 693 694 6UH 818 8SP 925 ZCW ZPP Options not shared: ZCW 465 502 609 620 6UH Where do I start? I have tried coding the old modules to match DME/CAS, but haven’t tried coding DME/CAS to match original modules. |

0) What are Last-7 characters of VIN? (without regard to Module Swap). 1) What Fault Codes are "Currently Present" in CAS Module? 2) Which ELV Warning Light & CC-ID Code(s) do you have?: a) RED Steering wheel & Lock Icon, with CC-ID 186? b) YELLOW Icon, with CC-ID 187? 3) Your vehicle has Automatic Transmission (GS1912 AT Module, 0205 Option)? 4) Can Scan Tool/ diagnostic Software display RPM as Live Data during Starter Cranking? Is it in 180-200 RPM Range? 5) Do you have a Mechanic's Stethoscope to listen for Injector Pulse during Starter Cranking? 6) Do you have a Spark Tester to put inline between coil & plug to test for spark during Cranking? 7) I would assume that there is (1) No Spark, (2) No Injector Pulse/click, & NO Change in RPM during Starter Cranking? If that is NOT the case, please advise. The Steering Lock MAY affect (disable) Engine Start, but I'm NOT familiar with that, having a 3/2007 build 328xi N52K. The two codes related to K6300 DME Main Relay are DEFINITELY pertinent. I will attach ISTA ScreenPrints of 12/2006 DME Supply, K6300 circuit/ Location & Connector View to NEXT POST. HOW to "Hotwire" K6300 is covered below. Be aware that Bentley says US vehicles with Automatic Transmission had ELV (Electric Steering Lock) "Up to 12/2006". CAS Module has a Setting/Code selection for "ELV_Reset" Function" & for "ELV_Aut"omatic Function. Coding of your 1/2007 CAS may need change. K6300 Activation; KL87 Activation: 1) Turn Ignition ON: Press START button WITHOUT pressing Brake & Instrument Cluster should Light; Climate Control Panel should Light & Blower Speed should be changeable. 2) KL87/ Terminal 87/ DME Main Relay (K6300) should activate. IF K6300 Activates (relay contacts close), there SHOULD be 12V+ Battery Voltage at fuses F01, F02, F03, F04 & F06 in the E-box. 3) If NO voltage at those fuses with Ignition ON, K6300 is NOT being Activated. Next Step is to remove K6300 Relay from its socket (X6300), bench-test the relay, and test for Battery Voltage at Relay Socket, X6300/6 (Red wire). 4) IF Voltage at X6300/6, then apply a Jumper wire from X6300/6 to X6300/2, Orange Wire. That's Socket #6 to Socket #2 of Relay Base, X6300. Test for Battery Voltage at F03. 5) IF Battery Voltage at F03 with Jumper wire in place, attempt Start. 6) REMOVE JUMPER & Report Findings & Answers to Questions. George |

The original VIN ends with PG53985.
I will check CAS codes later today. No ELV light is currently present. When I bought the vehicle, a red ELV was present. Upon resetting the ELV and CAS modules, the vehicle started, and I have not had another ELV issue since. However, with the DME/CAS swapped, the vehicle's steering lock will not unlock- no light is present. The lock does unlock with the original key and CAS, but the original DME is defective. I assume that this is because the 01/07 CAS does not have provisions for ELV, I will recode this CAS when I get home and see what I can do. The cluster does show RPM while cranking- not sure if it is in Live Data in other modules, I will check and respond when I am home. |

I have a 00A0B4 “Engine start, starter operation” code in CAS.
No ELV light is present. I have an automatic transmission, I am not sure if it is ZF or GM. My Autel says i have an EGS module and that it is for a GM6 transmission. Engine RPM is present in Live Data. I am not sure if my ignition testing light is making contact- however, when I observe from the drivers seat, I cannot see a light flash. No fuel injector pulse is present. F01-06 all have power inside of the electrical box. Where do I go now? |
