Hello,
I have a 2011 328xi, I bought it with x drive issues. I am assuming it’s the transfer case actuator based off the codes, after resetting the oil life and resetting adaptations on the transmission and transfer case, these codes return. Would I need to clear the remaining oil life code using ISTA + and repair the T case actuator? Any help is appreciated. Thx. ![]() |

Questions:
1) What Make/Model Scan Tool or Diagnostic Software (INPA/ISTA) do you have? 2) What Warning Lights appear on Instrument Cluster when driving? 3) Remove Fuse F40 (30A) and test it electrically as well as visually. That is fuse supplying power to VTG/ Actuator. 4) Performance & Warning Lights SAME since you bought it? 5) Last-7 Characters of VIN? George |

Hi @gbalthrop,
Sorry for the delay, it’s been a very busy week and if not had time to compile the information. But here we go. 1. Currently, I do not have working version of ISTA+, I’ve downloaded torrents and mega files however was unable to get either to work. So I am using THOR + Protool, or an Ancel BM500 bmw code scanner. 2. ABS, TRACTION, 4x4, engine light, 3. Will attempt this tomorrow! 4. Performance, abit better as I’ve had an exhaust leak repaired & cleaned the air filter. Still sluggish and no xDrive. 5.F196934 |

I actually went ahead and changed out the T case actuator today, it did not solve the issue. And the actuator actually looked fairly new and better than the one I replaced it with from a knock working transfer case.
Have some new codes coming up, not sure if it’s to do with the work performed. Doubtful, as I did everything myself and had no issues with removal or install of the new tc actuator. Everything plugged in and bolted back up no problem. They seem all to be related to front wheel speed sensor signals… A0B5 5E4E 5E24 581A 581B ![]() |
