E90 N53 Instrument Cluster "Tapping" upon key insert

Hello people,

Since a couple weeks my E90 has started to make in an interesting noise whenever I insert the key and the car has been sitting for more than 10 minutes.

Sounds like its coming directly from behind the cluster, unhearable in the engine bay. All lights, etc work normally. Radio on or off does not make a difference either neither does door being opened or closed, dials all work fine too. It's not being problematic but it sounds like something is about to fail in the instrument cluster in the near future? Any idea's or guesses would be helpful.

unscrew two screws holding the instrument cluster and remove it and disconnect the cable
and try again without cluster connected to the car

That sound is normal. All clusters (KOMBI modules) do that, at least the four E9x cars I own/owned.
