Hello, i just changed oil level sensor gasket and measured the oil level (while it was on red light tbh).

Anyway, the reading is telling me +1 qtz (like barely half an inch on the bar on dashboard).

Is there a way i can retake this measurement? I turned off the car and tried going to Oil Level page in dashboard but it keeps telling me the same level from 5 mins ago

My car is 2011 bmw 328i.

I think if the car is cold, and you start it and drive it sufficiently it will take a fresh reading.

Okay, let's get some precision to what you've provided as information so far.

You changed the oil level sensor (called the "OZS") gasket. I assume you changed the oil (i.e. drained and refilled the oil). You said you measured the oil "while it was on red light". What does that mean? Are you saying the oil level was showing "+1qt" when you drained the oil to remove the OZS?

How many quarts/liters of oil did you add to the engine when you refilled it after reinstalling the OZS with the new gasket? Have you run the engine for over 5 minutes AND driven the car at normal road speeds for 10 minutes or longer?

Most likely what you are seeing is the previous oil level because the computer has not yet determined a new oil level after you changed the oil. Please read this:

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

Hi Eft, hope you're doing well. Sorry for lack/misleading info. I was on mobile writing the post on the road.

I read the post and it was very informative. Now, i see no more Check Engine Light and oil level sensor looks good

Anyway just to clarify, when i said "check the oil level on red light", i meant i just got the car driving and i checked for the oil level sensor on the first red light (street light) i came across on the street within like first 3 mins. Also, I added about little less than 7 qtz.

You know, it's really ok to wait until you're parked somewhere to write posts.

Not to mention that it generally takes more than 3 minutes running the car before you get an oil reading. Slow and steady wins the race.

I'm generally good for at least 10 minutes (before I get a reading).

Thanks for the insight jsunma. I think everything is good to go now

For the road safety and "typing this on the road", i meant i was just outside and parked, not at home. I should have re-phrased that one
