2011 e92 bmw 328i 6speed.

On highway speeds, I’ve been noticing a resonating like vibration in the entire cabin of my e92. I can see my rear view mirror vibrate to where the headlight of other vehicles in the mirror are looking fuzzy, until I hold onto the mirror and can see the other car’s headlight clearly. It’s kind of like when you drive over those off-ramps on the side of the freeway and it makes a busting vibration to the car (not to that extend but like 1/4 of it). The vibration would lessen when I give it throttle, but when I let the throttle off, the vibration gets more intense.

My assumption was that my wheels may have been bent. I did notice a slight bend on one of my wheels. Took it to a wheel repair shop and they have resurfaced my wheels and diagnosed my other wheels as well. I also got it professionally balanced afterwards but after doing all that, the vibration still exists.

My tires are brand new in the rear but the front inner tires are wearing out (getting to the balding point).

Not sure what else to check at this point. It wasn’t doing this until recently but I haven’t noticed it right away. Maybe the engine mount or exhaust mounts are bad? My exhaust sounds fine so I doubt there’s anything leaking causing such vibration but then again, I’m not sure.

realistically there’s a large number of things that can cause weird vibrations. would be best to start ruling out simple things. when was it last aligned? when were suspension components last refreshed? wheel bearings? differential bushings? etc.. vibrations can be really sucky to find out the cause.

I actually had a weird vibration that would shake my mirror and I couldn't figure out for a bit of time. Turns out my parking brake shoes were cracked and were causing the rear rotors to overheat. It would only vibrate at higher speeds because I assume that is when the rotors would get hot enough.

I ended up replacing the shoes and rotor as well as rear pads and never had the issue again.

If the vibration doesn't change with RPM, I'd be looking at driveline and suspension components rather than something like engine/trans mounts. Since you ruled out wheels, I'd look at the guibo (flex disk) that is on the driveshaft - I think the symptom is often similar to what you describe. Alignment is probably a good idea as well. If you have an IR heat gun, you can check your brake temps after a drive to see if one of them is out of line.
