Radio replacement LCD
I posted this in the Audio/electronics forum but haven't received any replies so thought I'd try here. 2010 328xi E91. Radio part# 6512-9226398-01 Radio model# BMWRCD 205-12. The radio lights are dim to dark especially when ambient is hot. I'm looking for the replacement LCD strip but can't find it on ebay, amazon or aliexpress. I've seen some on aliexpress that just say for E9x but I know there are several different radios. Mine is the Czech radio. Any leads? Thanks.

I used the screen below on a 2009 Czech radio (6512-9199389-02) I had picked up where the display was going out. Worked well.

Wasn't that difficult to replace, fit was identical, only thing is the instructions posted in the forum are for the Alpine unit and the Czech model varies a bit.
I had bought a soldering iron and heatsink paste in preparation, but didn't end up needing the heatsink paste. I did need the soldering iron as the metal retainer around the LCD goes through the circuit board. There's a tiny drop of solder you have to remove and re-add back again which just holds the plate in place. Definitely take some pictures/video as you disassemble as there are a lot of screws of different sizes and it was super helpful to reference during reassembly. I wish I had taken more photos when I replaced mine Well worth the effort as it looks so much better. |

Success and it looks great. It is completely different from the Alpine unit tutorial. Took me a bit over 2 hours including 2nd guessing my self after I had it almost all back together and taking it back apart but all was okay. I pin punched a bunch of holes in a piece of cardboard and labeled each and every screw. Smartest thing I did was put a towel under the radio when removing the mounting screws. Thanks for the info and guidance. |
