2E81 After water pump and thermostat replacement
I just replaced my water pump and thermostat on my n54. After the install and bleeding procedure the car runs fine the fan isn’t on full blast and coolant temps are in the normal range but the car is still throwing the 2E81 - DME: Electrical coolant pump, speed deviation code and I can’t figure out why unless the pump was bad from the factory, any advice would be appreciated.

Just clear the code. When you replace electrical components that cause a problem code, you are supposed clear the code before replacing the part.

I’ve been having a similar issue after just swapping out my pump (Pierburg) and thermostat on an E70/N52. I’ve battled a leak from a bad position on the clamp for the C hose between the thermo and pump that had me dumping in an additional 2 jugs of coolant; didn’t see the leak until I popped the car up (no coolant on the ground). I also got the lost connection error to the pump as well so I thought the plug to the pump just got drenched in coolant from the leak so I sprayed it down with contact cleaner and also noticed that the plug wasn’t entirely in (I could pull it out fairly easier). Pushing it in with just my hand wouldn’t click it in so I used a flathead and thought things were good. No threshold or communication errors this AM until about an hour ago I notice temps going up and after scanning for errors the 2E81 showed up again. Cleared it and now I’m fine..
I’m gonna pop the car back up to see if I can spot anything but if the consensus is that this pump is already bad after only 2 days, I’m going to lose it. Got it through FCP Euro so they’ll ship another one, but you’ve gotta buy it first, then deal with all the downtime until it comes in. Let alone going through this process again of putting it in. What else can it be?! |
