Severe misfire - OK to drive for a couple of days?

One of my ignition coils went bad and i ordered a new set of 6 with a set of ngk plugs. Problem is, they don’t arrive until thursday (july 18). The car shakes a lot and sputters as if its about to stall. Above 3K rpms, the misfire completely disappears. Will i cause any permanent irreparable damage if i drive it moderately for the next 5 days? Just to work and back. Easily less than 15 city miles a day.

I wouldn’t risk it. I had this happen to me once and decided to buy only one cheap ignition coil from a local parts store. If you can get one used in the mean time that would work too until you get your full set.

Now that i think about it, would the plugs and ignition coils be covered by the SULEV warranty? It’s a 2011 and i have 140K miles so i think i still have the warranty.

This is exactly what I did. No idea on the SULEV N51 question... google around for the list of covered items. Would be great if covered!

Questions:
1) What Brand & Part# Coils are currently installed?
2) What Brand & Part# Plugs are currently installed?
3) HOW have you tested the ignition coil you believe to be bad? Test Results?
4) Make/Model of Scan Tool/ Diagnostic Software used, & any Fault Codes & FREEZE FRAME DATA read?
4a) At WHAT RPM does "Misfire" occur? Is there Injector Shutoff? For How Long?
5) Have you carefully inspected the wiring of the subject coil?
6) Have you swapped the "believed bad" coil to a different cylinder to see if fault follows to that cylinder?
7) Does your SES light REMAIN ON as you drive, regardless of "Rough Running"?

One can't really "Predict" if you can safely operate your vehicle with "Misfire" code without knowing the NATURE of the misfire. If a coil is NOT firing the plug AT ALL, & if the Injector is NOT shut down on that cylinder, you are dumping fuel into that bank & will irreparably Damage the catalyst in the Cat if you continue driving it.

GOOD Diagnostic Software, such as INPA, would allow you to answer those questions. Even then, it's a Crapshoot. You can help ALL of us by taking the time to answer the questions above.

BTW, IF you KNOW one coil is bad, Advance Auto says this part is correct Replacement:
