2008 328i SULEV Fuel Pump Pressure Problems
Whats up Bimmer World -
So i recently had problems with my 2008 328i a few months ago, it started with some rough idle then i got some misfires codes with an increase of vibrations until one day it finally just stalled out and wouldn't turn over. I replaced the following parts.... - New Spark plugs - New ignition coils - New Fuel Pump - New Battery I installed the new Fuel Pump yesterday and let the car prime and sit over night. This morning i tried starting her up and she turned over quite fast. While it was in idle it had slight vibrations and it gave me P0306 for cylinder 6. I switched the ignition coil on Cylinder 6 with the coil from Cylinder 1 and the code persisted. The car was turning over fine for about 30 minutes until it stalled out again. I did notice a weird smell coming from either inside/outside the cabin kinda like an burning smell (had the windows down so i couldn't pin point it. After it stalled out and would not turn over again i connected a fuel gauge to the railing to check the pressure and i was not getting in 70-75 psi range like i should be. My question is could my fuel pump have burned out again or could it be the fuel module that's burned out and making my fuel pump fail (keep in mind i have the N51 model and its well past its sulev warranty) Any ideas as to what the problem could be? I'm thinking it might be electrical but I'm not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm still a novice with these e90's. |

If your fuel pump was burning out I don't think you would be able to smell it in the cab since its in the fuel tank which has a cover with a gasket, then you also have the cover in the tab with its additional foam gasket.
The EKPM is in the cab behind the seat bolster so you would definitely smell that if it was burning up. IMHO the EKPMs aren't cooled properly from the factory and cause premature wear on the electronics. |

I was thinking it might be the EKPM2 as well. I just got back from scavenging a donor BMW and got a replacement Fuel module. I know it has to be coded first but i tried installing it to see if it would turn over and no luck.
I'm going to try and code it to my vehicle to see if that helps. But is there any chance my new fuel pump burned out internally? either way I'm going to check the fuel pump again to see if anything came loose since my car is in the high millage range i know those plastic connectors wear out after a while. |

My 328i is up there. It has over 185,000 miles. So I plugged into inpa today and tried testing the fuel pump and I definitely hear it priming but i still didnt have any fuel pressure at the rail. My question now is ... would my fuel pump prime up if my ekpm2 is faulty? Is it possible an internal line from the fuel tank burst as I've heard it has happened to some people. What else besides the the fuel module and fuel pump could be stopping it from turning over?
