Awesome post, I will be curious to see how the G90 fits in. If the G80 is any indication it should be good.

Great post. Thank you.
I loved my E60 with the V10 which was the best sounding M5 of all time IMHO.
The F10 still looks very sexy but the F90 is the sleekest and most attractive of them all.

The F90 CS is the best overall M5. They’re all good in their own right. As far as to me which is the best version with BMW’s soul is between the E34 and the E39.

E28 forever. The OG series production M car is untouchable.

But I loved all of them through the E39

After that things got detached and too focused on HP, IMO. Lost the plot!

Interesting…

Give me the F90 tech, with an increased HP E60 V10, and an 8sp DCT transmission, and F90 AWD drivetrain.

I still miss the sound of the E60 engine.

I’ve owned two E39s over the years and found them to be awesome cars. Dinan suspension, short shifter, and a muffler delete are a must IMO.

E39. The most sublime chasis/engine combo…ever. Power was so linear.

E39 is by far where you feel that it’s so special
E60 sound is like no other
F90 has the speed of a maniac
G90 is luxury with speed

Each generation loses purity and gains comfort and speed

I’m biased. I had an E34 M5 and I loved it.

Rare, only 1500 in the US.
Last of the hand assembled M cars.
Final and best iteration of the M88 - S38 straight 6 from the M1 which is derived from racing engines.

Regardless which M5 generates the most appeal, we are lucky to have the opportunity to own one of them. F90 gets my vote.

It'll be awesome until/if it breaks, then nobody can fix it.

I've driven an E39, and an E28. E28 was a ton of fun to drive. very engaging car and the S38 is one of the greats. The E39 is the most overhyped BMW ever in my opinion, M5 is no exception; I was very underwhelmed. Unpopular opinion I know, but that's my $.02. I just watched these videos this weekend, they're all a great watch. My vote is E60, E34, and G99 in that order.
