Windscreen Replacement
Anyone with experience in having their windscreen replaced got any tips, please? Can I still get OE glass nowadays? Worth trying to upgrade to climate control glass while I'm at it?
Any recommendations for a place to have it done in Herefordshire-ish area? Thanks |

The climate glass is pretty cool--very rare in the states. You can still get OE, Genuine, and aftermarket glass for these. IMO OE vs genuine is a non-issue unless you want the BMW logo in the corner. Most aftermarket glass is pretty good too nowadays so I wouldn't worry too much but OE is cheap enough. Make SURE they use a new OEM upper molding and lower clip to hold the cowl down or else you'll get water leaks.

I've had a few windscreens in the last couple of years, all have been from Autoglass and Auto windscreens I think it was. No problem at all, and you can't tell the difference from the original BMW screen. As said above make sure they fit the seals properly do you don't get any leaks after.
The screen fitted by Autoglass actually improved the function of my auto windscreen wipers, they were much more responsive with the new screen. |

Got the windscreen replaced by Autoglass a couple of weeks ago. Had them come to me instead of doing it in their workshop. Technician was a nice chap and did a fine job - didn't mind me hanging around and chatting as he worked. He replaced the strips mentioned by YZ. He fitted "Fuyao" branded glass...seems fine. I'm sure it's fully compliant etc. Auto wipers are much more responsive now, which is very welcome.
But. The day after the glass was replaced - it rained overnight - I got the rapid indicators and multiple bulb failures of a wet frm. I'd watched him refit all the plastics, and he got them sitting neater than they had been previously. However, I took them off, checked it all and put them back on again. I think I seated the wiper seals a bit better (already siliconed them into the plastic trim piece). I've had a couple of bulb errors since, but I'm hoping it's just residual damp under the matts etc. I've since replaced them a 2nd time due to replacing the intake manifold, and got them a bit cleaner and triple checked fitment. Fingers crossed it's just a blip and there isn't a deeper issue. He was super neat with the glass adhesive, so I really can't see that being an issue. Time will tell. |
