How the heck do you remove these fasteners?!

I'm an idiot, let me post that straight away to save you the trouble. I've spent 20 minutes wrestling with these fasteners to no avail. I get a trim prying tool up underneath it and it feels like I'm about to break something. Is there some trick involving the weird nipple part? Do I need to pry that up? Again, I'm an idiot. Have mercy on my soul.

Never removed this, but pull up the center knob before prying out

Yeah the center pin is the expander. Remove it and come right out..

Find a flat screw driver that has a fairly sharp tip, then use that to carefully lift the head of that plastic pin. Then it's easy to remove the entire clip fastener.
