Low Boost
Hi to anyone reading, need some help or advice on my E93 335is. Running MHD Stage1+
I am experiencing some serious lag and/or power loss, I used MHD to dlog and I'm hitting nothing more than 2.3psi on WOT, target boost is about 16.5psi. I did a boost leak test and didn't come across anything, car sounds fine, drives fine but when I put my foot down, it's not punchy at all. I have wastegate noises, I feel maybe one is stuck open or closed.. something!! Anyone help?! Scanned the car, nothing comes up but 30ff - dme turbocharger, charge-air pressure too low. |

The 335is' come in the E92 and E93.still hi I'll have my turbos checked regardless, i did the wastegate rattle fix on mhd but still hitting 2psi on wot, probably a bad boost solenoid my guess after all the checks. |

I was getting wastegate rattle real bad a while back and I wasn't able to make boost until about 3.5k rpms which is insane for twins. Super embarrassing as well to say the least, you either need to pull your turbos and repair the wastgates with this kit which requires a grinder to cut out old flappers and a welder to tack in new ones. Here is a link to a kit on ecstuning.
https://www.ecstuning.com/b-vargas-t...t-n54-wf2~vtt/ There are other options but this is just for reference, if going that route it would be worth considering replacing the cores as well, at that point they would be near new turbos. Or new turbos, both are about the same amount of work having to remove and reinstall turbos which usually means dropping the subfram for ease of access. But new turbos are going to be way more $$, just depends on how many miles you have on those twins to determine if its worth it. My twins had 105k miles on them so I decided to replace and I ended up going single turbo since I wanted to go that route at some point anyway so I figured to only do the job once. No more boost problems anymore! Hope this helps. |

Anyway, you are also incorrect about the failure rates of the solenoids, they do fail on a regular basis. I myself have replaced both of mine 2x due to low boost caused by internal failures of the solenoids. That being said he does say he has wastegate rattle, but he can probably make some adjustments to the wastegate rods and improve the boost and wastegate rattle. |

I own a sedan and a convertible, Whats does make me half gay?? 😂😂 So freaking funny.
Ok, back on topic. I do have some rattle too and ocasional 30ff code. I have 115k miles on stock turbos and still runs great I so Iam debating of going with new turbos or do the washer fix for front turbo and rear rod adjustment to see if helps for now. 🤔 |

Yeah this washer fix is only a temporary fix I would imagine. If I decide to replace the turbos will mostly upgrade them.

Resolved Low BOOST
Sorted the issue out, seemed to be one boost solenoid but i had my mechanic
"service" the turbo and resolve the wastegate rattle. Car drives like butter! hitting 16.4 psi with 16.5psi as boost target. Now I have a misfire on cylinder 6 when Im flat out lol, maybe coils or spark plugs?... |

According to him, on both turbos the wastegate shaft was stuck so to free it, he used penetrating oil, left it over night, next day he toggled with it and it came loose, did his pressure checks on both turbos and they're good now. Might not be using the right terms but that's as far as he goes, hope it helps

Everyone thinks "it helps" but they don't know why. What does it help? Colder plugs are a compromise that's necessary when pushing tons of boost and higher combustion temps at the expense of more fouling, rougher cold starts, and a shorter lifespan but it doesn't "help" with anything. Bosch OE plugs are the best for your situation.
