Annoying ELV error

Hi everyone. Trying to diagnose the source of annoying ELV errors.

BMW 320d 2009.

Car battery is 3 years old, resting voltage 12.3V, at time of crank 10+ V, with engine running 14.5 V when things work. Rechargeable FOB key.

Random steering wheel red icon comes on (steering wheel not locked) and car will not start. No crank.

Using Tool32, CAS.PRG, running "steuern_elvcounter_cas_loeschen" and "steuern_elvcounter_elv_loeschen" starts the car straight away, smoothly, no struggle. It is a pain having to travel with a charged laptop.

This can happen once a week, or every day, random.

Would it be possible that faulty components such as a faulty CAS module or a faulty starter motor/relay would work after clearing the ELV error?

Or is it the battery, even though the multimeter values seem good at first?

Wouldn't mind buying a new battery, I would like to avoid having to replace the starter after that though.

Thanks for any help.
