Exclamation Brake Pad Quote Advice

Hi,

This is my first Bmw (2016 x1). I just got quoted for front brake pad, sensors, and rotors from an independent shop for $729. I previously went to another independent shop for my rears and it was about $350 however within the year my rotors rusted;/ Is the front brake price pretty steep or?

Thank you so much for any support

That's a bit steep, but not if you can't do it yourself.

I would say half the quote is for parts, rest labor.

If you are dealing with the elements, including salt, wash/rinse vehicle frequently. Hard to beat rust.

The OE BMW brake parts cost at an Indy should be around $385. Labor for 2 hours max, $300. $685 plus $20 in shop fees, plus taxes, I come up with $753.

I just priced out brakes for your car on FCPEuro and it came out to $298.
OE sensor, Teextar pads and Zimmerman rotors. That means he can get these same parts cheaper from his auto parts supplier. Ideally parts and labour should total $500, max $550.

Now, if he's sourcing parts straight from the bmw dealership (with his 20% shop discount) I can see the quote being in the $700s

Iron rotors, rust, that's just what happens when they get wet. Normally the rust is just worn off when you drive the car next. Are you saying the rust is the reason for a brake job?

I interpreted the OP’s post as stating that rust appeared on the rear brakes within a year after they were replaced, and because of that he went to another shop for his front brakes and their estimate seems high to him.

I just got quoted $1400 to replace two $60 hoses on my wife's car. $700 for a brake job seems cheap now lol.

The estimate seems a bit on the high side.
Without knowing where the OP is located or what parts are being installed (OE vs Aftermarket) it's tough to evaluate.

Get a couple more quotes from Indys in your local area and you'll have a better idea.

IMHO, geographic location does play a major factor is the quote.

Unless the OP had some follow-up questions, I agree that a simple thank you would be totally appropriate.
