Since new movies almost always are terrible now - I’ve been watching old westerns with my boys 12 & 6. I’m starting with all the John Wayne films both in color or not.

In addition to John Wayne westerns - what else is suggested?

The Thin Man is excellent.
Most Cary Grant movies are light and fun.
Anything Hitchcock
Lots of classic westerns, but Shane is my favorite by far.
The Doris Day + Rock Hudson movies are fun, still. Especially if Tony Randall is in the cast.

Also Jack Lemmon did a ton of movies and some are really good.
The Apartment
Paper Tiger
Avanti (I think that’s the title, set in Italy, father has passed and he goes to retrieve the body for a mega funeral in the states, but it doesn’t quite work out that way).
Some Like it Hot (Marilyn Monroe and Tony Curtis co-star)

The original Magnificent Seven with Yul Brunner and Steve McQueen is a great western. It is based on the Seven Samurai which I've heard good things about but never saw so I can't recommend.

I also liked the remake of the Magnificent Seven with Denzel Washington.

Both good westerns in my opinion.

For a more recent Western, I thought this was pretty darn good!

Saw that and liked it. It is a remake; the original stars Van Heflin and Glenn Ford. Didn't see the original.
