Tune Required for Intake/Exhaust?

Hey folks!

Apologies if I missed this in my searching, but I couldn't seem to find an answer. Does the N52 require a tune if you do basic "bolt on" upgrades? I am considering the AFE or Injen intake (I am in Cali and need CARB) and eventually a Turner Axle-back.

My question is, do these engines require a tune to ensure these modifications don't negatively effect reliability?

This car is first and foremost my dad car so my main concern is reliability. I'm not looking for HP or torque gains really, just a bit of sound and character.

Neither of those mods will alter the engine management to the degree that a tune is required.
