Floor Mats and Cupholders

Just this morning I was thinking of replacing my rubber BMW floor mats with a set of the fancy carpet mats, now that they're showing up in stock at several places. Then this happened:

I'm just glad I was able to save most of my $6 coffee! The one on the right fell out. Guess it was a sign, I'm keeping the rubber mats.

This also reminded me of why cupholders weren't a primary concern by the E90 designers. If you're driving the cars the way they're meant to be driven you shouldn't have any cups/cans nearby.

I have Fabric/Carpet Mats that clean up like new (after nearly 8 years) with Carpet Cleaner Spray. NOT sure how well that, or even Dawn would do on coffee stain.

The way I drive (apparently "the way it was MEANT to be driven ;-), no beverage container/ cupholder would be safe from the G-Forces. I complete my "drink" (NON-alcoholic ;-) BEFORE I drive.

Went through that on my carpets, coffee with milk is not fun to remove. Had to get a tannin remover for the coffee portion.

The noise the cupholders make when they are in use drives me crazy, so try to avoid using them while driving.

Still holding out hope the carpeted mats are restocked, been waiting forever.

They're out there, just not from all retailers. I just got a set for my E93 after searching for over a year.

"Getbmwparts.com" shows they have the Gray mats for E91 in stock for $105. That is what I got in 2017 (82 11 22 93 529). IIRC, they then had Black, Tan & Gray. Have NOT checked for other two colors, or if E91 differs from E90, E92, E93.

I got my black carpet mats here in like 2022. Looks like they still have plenty. I'm sedan btw, YMMV

Thanks George. Usually order from here, reached out to them and they're still backordered with no ETA. Only version available seems like black for xDrive.
