Joying 8.9" project

After 4 years of using the 8.8"Joying I think it's time to upgrade to the new model which is now 8.9". Full details on the previous install are given on this thread
https://www.e90post.com/forums/showt...ghlight=joying

The main benefits of the new unit are:
- resolution improves to 1920x720.
- latest CPU (Qualcomm Snapdragon QCM6125 Octa-Core)
- 5.1 bluetooth
- Android 12

Audio chip remains unchanged
Mounting remains basically unchanged (slightly different dimensions due to different bezel sizing). Width is 13mm narrower.

So it looks like it should be essentially a straight swap.
If anyone else has tried this model please let me know your experience.

New model :

Configured for BMW CANBUS.

Fits just like before

Very happy with the performance - fast and very clear display. Airplay connectivity is fast and painless. Sound quality is excellent too.
Defintiely worth the upgrade.

So tempting...

Any quirks resolved? Like:
1.switching to Bluetooth audio goes to phone first, along with a loud pop noise.
2. Ringtone, parking sensor, door open not customizable.
3. Do you use a sim card? Is internet connection faster than the 8.8 units?
4. Does voice command phone calls use your phone's phone line, or does it call through the head unit sim?

For new features
can you customize the touch button (along bottom) colour's?
Microphone better?

Even though we use the steering wheel volume buttons, must be nice to have it on the screen now too!

How is the reliability? Does it always auto connect/disconnect fast? Is the boot up time long? Does it pick up from the last used audio setting (like bluetooth or radio)? I also like that it has optical out - could be a good match to a Matchup amp with Optical input.
