USB Retrofit 08 E92

Hello, I have a 08 E92 without Idrive with the S677A audio, which I believe is just called Top hifi or something. The car only has the Aux port, 1 disc Cd and of course radio. I want to be able to use my phone to play music while also being able to switch the songs with my steering wheel. What are my options here? I have Protool so I can use that to code stuff which I know is necessary. If you guys need more info just let me know

Mr12Volt cheaper interface does not use the Aux port. It hooks up through the Most Bus with the CD changer interface enabled. One of the few types of adapters that does not degrade the Audio quality .
It will give you usb, sd card and bluetooth streaming audio although the interface is kind of minimal for these function's . It does have steering wheel controls that kind of mimic what the in dash cd player does .
There is a very long thread on it here.
Also does phone and gives you another aux.

I have one myself on a pro radio .

It says I need the 6 disc changer but “If there is no CD changer fitted in your car, the CD changer support must be activated by the BMW dealer.” In my vin I have the option for “Provisions for BMW 6CD changer” is that the correct option??

You can activate the cd changer yourself with BMW standard tools a laptop
and a K/D can cable or one of the phone diagnostics/coding setups like the Bimmergeeks app may be able to do it.
Go to the coding sub forum for details, or do and open search on the Internet for activating the option.

When it says provisions it means the wiring the the cd changer needs is already in the car but it may not be configured or
the module for that option is not installed or activated.

Alright. So for a E92 it would be in the rear, would I put this mr12volt in the back and just run the USB to the front? Same for the microphone and stuff? Also how’s the audio quality? I heard it lacks low end bass but I’ve also heard that may have been fixed with the newer models

The one thing that is superior on this system is the Audio.
The SD or USB files will be the same quality as the CD disk player
as long as you are using High Bit Rate mpw or wav files. The bluetooth
quality is a little less but still not to bad. All the cheap bluetooth dongles
go through the BMW Aux which is known to have really low quality.

I don't know where you got any info on sound quality about this I have never seen it for this device.
There is a long thread on sound quality on bluetooth here though. Its the only device I know of that feeds
digital to the Head unit . The same bits that come of your cd player.

There where lots of people searching for sound quality through bluetooth and most the adapters to get bluetooth where lacking in fidelity because they used the BMW Aux . Some tried to find ways around this like using a DAC to get a better signal . Then you are faced with a bunch of analog to digital to analog to digital conversions . The conclusion in the thread was the DAC makes some difference but avoiding the BMW aux is the best method.

The quality of sound in BMW systems is not all that good compared to aftermarket. The Logic 7 and Individual Audio are the best of the BMW systems. Logic 7 is still kind of Meh.

You can put the box anywhere it will fit (with the limit of cable length supplied). I put mine tucked under the plastic on the passenger side to I could easily change out the USB and SD sticks. I never really routed the microphone it works good . You can continue to use the BMW phone app if you have one you just have to set one of the switchs on the box for the phone function to off..

Bimmergeeks protool should be able to enable the CD changer function I think you should ask them .

You seem to know a lot about these systems so I have another question for you. For my system do you have any recommendations for upgrades? I’m looking to upgrade the subs to the earthquake sws-8s, would you recommend them?

I don't have that system never did there are a lot of old threads here if you search for it. My original system was Hi Fi and it was and easy aftermarket upgrade. Logic 7 is not and easy or inexpensive for and upgrade path.

Do a search for Earthquakes here a lot of thread will show up.
