N54 Timing issues
Photo of my car for attention
Hi all, I’ve been having this issue with my n54 for a while now and just can’t seem to figure it out. One night while out I did a pull and the motor lost all power and I had to coast it into a gas station, it wouldn’t start back up for a few mins then started up but was out of time. Then I took it home saw my exhaust gear was out of time and retimed it and it ran for maybe a minute then starting throwing codes and was obviously out of time. So then I took it back apart to see my exhuast gear was out of time again, I replaced the exhuast gear and the bolts, threw it back together for it do to it again. Took it back apart to then throw another exhuast cam gear and camshaft in the car retimed then put it back together. Boom did it again, took the car back apart and decided to change the tensioner and it did it again, took it apart again and did the timing chain(it was stretched) and the newer style crank hub. Put it all together, it ran amazingly for maybe 5mins just idling and letting the car run, no revving or nothing then it went out of time. I preceded to clean the crankshaft position sensors and turn it back on then it ran horribly then died again. And no the car cranks but no starts. I’m at a loss atp with this car Right now my car has 2 codes 2a98 and 2a99. My car has 19ts and a very extensive maintenance list but I’m just stuck and can’t figure out what to do. I’ve currently replaced both intake and exhaust cam gears, exhuast camshaft, timing chain, timing chain guide, timing chain tensioner, and entire crankhub with brand new grip disc and sprockets. Any advice with be appreciated! |

Did you get the cam gears on the correct orientation? E is the one for the intake side and A is the exhaust side. Common mistake.

I did, the car just keeps jumping only on the exhaust cam. Entirely new everything timing wise and yet it still jumps, only on exhuast side as well
