weekend car options opinions
I would like to present two different options I have for a fun "weekend car" that are on extreme ends of the spectrum and get opinions on which to buy, but before I do I also need to state my current situation.
I have two young kids, the wife has a three row SUV and I have a G80 2024 M3 comp xdrive. We will both keep these cars for the foreseeable future. That being said, which of these two would provide me the most fun and "smile per mile" in your opinion and which would you pick? 2024 Porsche GT3RS or GT3. advantages with this option are obviously the performance aspects. I would track it maybe 5+ times a year. Driving it less than 500 miles per year. Best looking car in my opinion as well. Disadvantages would be not being able to take the kids in it, could be not as pleasant as my wife wished it was when going on a date night, or a special occasion place. 2025 Vintage https://www.vintagebroncos.co/modern...ource=redirect This is a brand that takes the looks of a 1970's Bronco and slaps it on a new Bronco chassis, complete with 4 seats and all the creature comforts of a modern car. I like the way these look, and the company seems like they have great customer service. Advantages with this one would be the ability to take the whole family out, & open roof top for sunny CA days. Disadvantages are they are not crash test rated (which kind of spooks me TBH), and it would take weeks for a replacement exterior part in the case of an accident. So question is, do I take the "selfish" route in the "fun" department of this new car and get the Porsche, or do I let the whole family in on the fun and get the Vintage? Which would you pick and why? |

If you have the means, GT3 RS all day no question.

Out of only those 2, the GT3RS without a doubt, but only drive it 500 miles a year? What a waste. DRIVE it.

No, not for 2024 models (which is what he mentioned).

GT3 RS if you plan on only driving 500 miles per year, and you are going to track it 5+ times a year.
The 2025 GT3 Touring in the United States has the option for rear seats if you don`t want to upset the wife ![]() ![]()

None of the above. A weissach GT2 RS;
https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...us=0&zip=90001 Key points; - Doesn't really depreciate, and based on what Porsche is doing with hybrid systems will likely appreciate - Isn't mass produced like the 992 3RS (2000+ total 992.1 3rs's in the US total vs very low 3 digit figures for the w2rs) - You won't look like every douche at cars and coffee who has that sick new 3rs that doesn't drive it really, you'll have a car that scares the faux race car drivers away because this one actually is a little scary - You don't have as much electronics bullshit. Other considerations in the market and their points 488 pista - Costs more and has worse build quality but won't depreciate for the same reason the other do, it's not a hybrid GT4RS - This is more fun than the 3RS. I repeat, this car is more fun than the 3RS. Change the gearing if you get it because the factory ratios suck because they have to hobble it so the hero car is better, but this thing is sweet. Also probably won't really depreciate. 720/750 - Depreciate a lot, extremely fast and fun though. If you don't care about money, this would be my choice. Buy it and beat it like it owes you money. 765LT - Might be to your taste, I think the build quality personally is better than my previous 992, value seems to hold, but is higher than the 3RS in price. Whatever the next LT is - You ain't getting it unless you already have rapport with Mclaren, and you don't. Also might not be in your timeframe (2 years out) STO - Higher in price than the 3rs but also won't depreciate. Also a VAG product so not terrible quality like the 488. ACR-X Viper - Probably not in your sights because it's not as refined as the other stuff you posted, but again won't depreciate. That new Lexus ttV8 supercar - Probably gonna be LFA numbers and who knows what it's gonna cost or if it sucks. Toyota in general these days isn't really anything to be excited about. Expanded list; Vantage/DB12 - Depreciation bomb and mercedes running gear. If you have a company and need to generate expenses, maybe as a lease? They do drive pretty nice. Considered one over the M4CS. f8 Tributo - You want the 488 pista. Yes these are cheaper, go drive both. They're very similar but one has the older running gear versus the newer running gear. SF90 - These are almost in that price range because they took such a dump. Expect it to continue depreciating MC20 - No R8 - If you value comfy, this is better than the Hurucan variants but won't excite you or really be a good track toy like the GT3RS. The real considerations you have are, if you're gonna track it, are you really a good enough driver that you'll be able to extract any meaningful difference between any of these cars? If it's just gonna be a weekend toy, what do you find value in? Is it being really flashy? Is it carving up local b-roads? Is it going on dates? If you want to let the whole family in on the fun, the Vintage is really cool. I have seen them and been in them and they are exactly as advertised. Definitely a unique pick out of the sea of "hot" sporty SUVs. Does this mean you might be partial to even more weird stuff, like say a GT4Lusso? That won't really depreciate and has a v12.

I'm gonna be brutally honest here, if you're considering a 2 seat car and tracking it 5+ times a year, what the shit do you care about the Bronco not being crash tested? Your other option is. Acar that totally cuts your kids out of the picture?
Also, unless your ego is just super fragile and so you have to have the GT3 RS, you could get a GTS, do all the same 500 miles and track days, and be able to bring your kids too. |

I think it's idiotic to buy an RS model if you aren't going to be on the track constantly. You are beating yourself to death with the suspension and basing it on the people that bought it that have rationalized their purchase. You'll find on every car board, for every top end race model, the drivers will say "it's not bad" and "you can daily it". There's a reason they make the GT3 and the GT3 RS. IMO, this is clear, the GT3 is by far the better daily driver and if you are only tracking a few times a year, this seems like a no-brainer to me.
GTS, GT3 or GT3 Touring, but RS is full track. If you want full track, for sure get the RS, but your description doesn't sound like that at all.

This is exactly why cars and coffee are so boring. Just a bunch of poseurs in their 3rs's that are terrified to drive it.

If you have $400k to spend get yourself a 991.2 GT3 and spend the rest on a Rolls Royce Dawn. Take the wife and kids in the Dawn and take your GT3 to the track. Win win and your wife will love the RR way more than any sports car unless she’s a car junkie, and even then being a passenger in a GT3RS is probably not what she wants to do. No other car feels like driving a Rolls other than maybe a Mulsanne and even that isn’t the same experience. Supreme comfort, insane build quality, top down driving, and driving one makes you feel like a total boss every time.
We have a local dealer for the Vintage Bronco company and I was NOT impressed with the interior considering the price point. Seems like a $100k car that’s being sold for $250k. Another option you may want to consider for family duty is a GTC4Lusso. Epic V12 and seats 4 comfortably with modern infotainment and a really nice interior. If you decide not to get a Porche and get a Bronco, just a get a Bronco. And just get the Raptor.

CyberTruck. Definitely. Yeah....
![]() OP, what are you after w/ the weekend car? The options are on completely different spectrums so the comparison and tradeoffs are pretty stark. One might also saw trade down and/or older on the P-car and use the savings to get 2 weekends cars. Different battle w/ the wife but surely a reasonable compromise so that everyone gets something. ![]()

People say this with no concept of how far porsche and others have pushed the context of the word to mean "you can drive it legally on the way to the race track", but we have turned it into a race car in everything but name. IMO.

100% agree. It's a race car that can be driven legally on the street. My point was more about how that's exactly what a lot of guys want in their weekend toy.

Those are two oddly specific options. It seems that there are so many more choices between these two extremes that would be a better blend of "extreme road car" and "fun with the family car".
If the two options are truly the only cars you care about, I would recommend the GT3RS since you already have vehicles with utility. But if these are just two random cars that caught your attention, perhaps sit and think about what you are looking for and what other cars could satisfy that. With the budget you seem to have I'm sure you can find something. Also, consider multiple cars (if you have the space for them). As was said before, a GT3 or even GTS would do 90% of the GT3RS for your proposed use case and leave plenty of budget for a fun open top off-roader (even if won't have vintage style). |

You mentioned Vintage. Have you taken a look at Icon 4x4? They do Land Cruisers as well as Broncos. Absolute top tier if you are looking for a turnkey option to venture into the vintage 4x4 market to have a "new" vehicle outcome.
https://www.icon4x4.com/ All told, they are still just really nice tractors to drive. I think it may lose its luster unless you have a true passion for the vehicle. They "regularly" exchange hands on BaT for mid-high $100k. Given the price of entry, I wouldn't say they particularly come out a wash on value should it lose its appeal to you. My money, I'd look into a very well restored 40 Series Land Cruiser for a fraction of the cost and realistically have a similar outcome with cash to boot to still scratch your GT3 itch of a prior gen (or something else entirely). You get both - win, win. Unless you are dead set on a Bronco, the same could be said - but they hold higher values than a Toyota for a similar experience. |

weird dilemma, does your wifes 3 row have a sunroof?
if it does you can do the whole fun day for the family in that thing and then enjoy yourself in a gt3, or as others have pointed out you cna get rear seats in the 992.2 GT3 so best of both worlds?

I think that's where it's more like a GT3 or GTS would realistically do like 99.9% of the GT3 RS. Sure, if you are going full race, with race gear, prep, wheels and tires, training, not just some recreational stuff, the GT3 RS will smash, it makes massive downforce at speed and has a slower top speed for it, but goes faster around a track, but for anything you'd do on the street and most racing you'd do, we are talking a LOT closer than 10% IMO. It's not like we are comparing a base 911 or anything.

no wrong option here. you have pretty much all bases covered with the wife having her own SUV and then theres the g80 comp that can do it all as well.
just need to decide whats important to you. i would probably go huracan evo or 458 spyder over an RS just because it has a bigger motor and more cylinders. Maybe even in spyder version just to hear more of it. If i was in your shoes i'd get a gt3 because i'd need at least one manual car in the garage.
