Hi,

I have done a cic retrofit on my 2011 E90 335i a while ago. I was able to use FSC Tools to write the certs to the headunit successfully for BMW Apps, NAV, and Voice Command and etc. My text messages are shown in office. I have an iphone 15 pro. Am I able to setup the CIC to show Spotify under BMW APPS so I can see the album art instead of the plain bluetooth streaming screen? I've seen youtube videos on the cic spotify but the setup process is unclear.

The USB Armrest also does not charge my phone or recognize it as tries to charge every other second. I used multiple cables but none of them just charge normally. Is it a wiring issue?

In the VO you need....
6AK
6FL
6NR
And the FSC for ConnectedDrive installed.

In the TRC file for the CIC you also need to have...
"PICTURE_ALBUM_ARTS-0B
aktiv"

I think that should do it.

And make sure your software is up to date, as attached photo

So,

I'm unable to update the combox to upd1008. I formatted the usb stick to fat32 and mbr partition. I left it plugged in for 15 mins and the software update does not recognize it as plugged in. I plug in a regular cable and it only charges my iphone. I have connected drive option in CIC and see BMW Apps. Is there a away to update the combox through ISTA P?

I did add in the 6AK option as when I retrofitted the combox with usb I added in 6FL and 6NR. Also enabled Album Art in CIC1A trace file using NCS Dummy.


I guess if nothing works then Mr12Volt is better?

I'm also getting a code for Microphone 1 Open Circuit? I added in factory mic with the 3 wires (yellow, clear, and white) which go back to the combox. Trying to get the microphone to work so I can take calls in the car without switching to speaker on the iphone.

I'd be inclined to check the cable from the combox to the USB port and see if it's a good one, otherwise you may have a faulty combox.

So i did a test with the usb port. I unplugged it at the center console and it stopped charging my phone. I unplugged it at the black combox port and it stopped charging. So the cable seems fine? I’ve ordered another usb with cable off aliexpress i will try it out. What coding needs to be done to situate the 6FL in combox aside from VO?

Checked under current software and its greyed out and it seems old. I checked in INPA and it shows last updated in June 2011. Wonder if i need to update to upd1006 instead of 1008?

There are two wires that give the power and the other two are for data, so could be a slightly damaged cable.

Default code the combox, this will put the VO into it.

Yes that is the state mine was in initially. Once you get the USB port sorted then you should be able to update to 1008 (following the instructions to change the date as per my link above).

I have performed two CCC>CIC retrofits. One came stock with 6FL the other I added with a cable back to the trunk that I pulled from the junkyard. I don't have an iPhone, but I have read that the album art will only show when connected via the armrest USB port. There is no avenue for getting those features over built in Bluetooth, despite update levels.

AFAIK, "BMW apps" is dead, as you need the BMW app on your phone to get the car integration to work. Things like pushing over nav destinations that were advertised, won't work any longer without the iPhone app. Look at the dates of those videos, they may be using software that has been deprecated.

I also could never get the 1008 update to be recognized, but everything works fine for me with 1006. I heard one trick was to set the car's date to before 2010 and it will take the update, but that didn't work for me in either car. Best of luck!

Waiting on cable to come from aliexpress as a test measure. Seems like everything is coded. I do want to try a 1006 update to see if it works in the meantime. Is there a download file I can find? I looked at the wiring diagrams and my CIC retrofit and Combox retrofit are wired properly. The FSC for 6FL comes back valid. Hoping the cable is bad but I ordered a female usb to fakra hsd Z.

I just Google searched for "bmw combox update file". About halfway down in this post is a drop box link for the 1006 file.

Why are you looking for 1006? The 1008 file works as long as you change the date, then once the update is done you simply change it back. This is the Time/Date change not the car manufacture VO date. But if it's not recognising the USB stick with the file on it then there is still the issue to sort first.

Thanks guys, still waiting on the usb cable. In the meantime if you can check through my trace files and let me know if there are adjustments needed i would appreciate it. I’ll try with a different usb stick and format to FAT32 with MBR.
