Wheel Wax Mini-Review - SOLUTION TO BRAKE DUST
Last Saturday when pander5 was over at my house detailing the exterior of my 330i I asked if he could apply some of the WheelWax I just bought from WheelWax.com. He said "sure!" and put a thick layer on every wheel. Then let it dry for about 30 minutes and got to the wiping it off part. Man, that stuff was tough to get off! He ended up going over every wheel and then I did a second pass on them to make sure it was all off. Took us between 30 and 45 minutes to get off -- and that's for two people doing it. With one person at it, you're probably looking at an hour to an hour and fifften minutes.
Since then, I've driven about 200 miles with light, mild and hard braking. And two hours ago my wheels looked nearly black. So I went outside in an attempt to figure out just how well the WheelWax is protecting my wheels. I grabbed a MicroFiber cloth, squat down to the first wheel and took a swipe. The MicroFiber just came out of the washer and dryer and was already black --- with one swipe. This stuff works incredibly well! It usually takes me about 15 minutes to clean each wheel really well and I timed myself as to how long it took me. My fastest wheel was 2 minutes and 6 seconds --- and that's spotless clean. Bottom line: The WheelWax cuts a 1 hour wheel cleaning job down to 15 minutes or less. Really very impressed with how well this stuff works. Just remember though, it's WORK! to get this stuff on and off when you are first applying it. After that, it's smooth sailing! www.wheelwax.com HIGHLY recommended and well worth the $20 shipped. This stuff works 10 times better than the Michelin Brake Dust Repellent I used. |

![]() His real name is Paul and he's a great guy. He's extremely passoniate about these cars and really did a great job on mine and made sure everything was to my liking. He was over at my place working on my 330i for over 7 hours! And that was just the exterior. I've been trying to find time to write a review on the whole process but haven't had any lately. Hopefully, I'll have some time to do that in the next few days along with some pictures I took the day my baby was detailed. ![]() |

I have used it too and it works great! Anything to reduce cleaning time and actually works is good for me!

I bought a jar of this wheelwax stuff for my E46 used it once and found it took way too long to get the stuff on and off. I also found that after all the time I spent getting the wax on, it was even harder to get the brake dust off the waxed wheel and the wax didn't last long on the wheel, I've never used it again for my wheels.
I've been using P21 wheel cleaner for 8 years now on my wheels, only takes a quick spray and it disolves brake dust, use a soft wheel brush and then hose off, takes like 2 mins for each wheel at the most. I live by that stuff. ![]() |

Sounds even easier. Does it get all the brake dust off?

You have to be careful with high pressure washers since it can peel paint and clearcoat. Usually fine for washing but if you are not careful you can do more damage.

Not an old wives tale. I use to work for a tire and rim company.

so what??? if the clearcoat can come off so easily, what is its utility? I fail to see how a Kirchner power washer is going to damage anything on a BMW....if that were the case then 90 percent of the drive-in car wash facilities should probably close given that they all use high-pressure sprayers....come on, let's get real here....

If some idiot buys a high pressure washer and manages to chip away at the clearcoat there goes your protection for the rim. Thats what! Do you thing the rims will stay nice and clean. No! You will have to clean the rim even more than without the clearcoat. Why do you thing they put clearcoat on to begin with.

Why would you assume that everyone will use a Kirchner power washer? They do make more powerful pressure washers than that. Clearcoat is no different than the clearcoat on you paint job. If you use too much pressure you can chip and remove paint.

Asiann - you are right - I should have recommended your garden variety power washer which is not as lethal as some of the high pressure cleaning systems out there..I have a Kirchner which does a great job at cleaning the rims after I spray them with a standard wheel cleaner...btw, my family lives on the big island...

Cool! I know some people like to over do things and may not realize that really high pressur washers and prolong spraying in one area can do some real damage. Ciao!

"Do not try to rinse your hands or feet with the pressure washer. It can tear your skin right off. Enjoy your clean car" Something is wrong with that statement. If it is going to "tear my skin right off" I think I'll avoid using it on the clear coat of the car (underside and wheel wheels are a little different). Rather not chance having to get a 40K car repainted because I wanted to save about 15 minutes washing it (yep that's about all the "soap" portion of the wash routine takes me).
