MT shift boot on steptronic

Got the idea from Kev and Phattbam, so credit goes to them.

Considering how easy and inexpensive this mod is, I'm surprised I haven't seen more members with it. It'll look perfect as soon as my M5 shift knob from Ironic comes

There is some work that needs to be done under the boot (moving around some wires). I can post a DIY if there is enough interest.

The boot for the MT simply snaps in and fits perfectly. I have installation pictures, but like I said... if there is enough interest, I'll write up a DIY. I'll try and retake the pictures in better lighting too.

Unless you have the ironic shift knob that setup is pretty dangerous imo. I once put my car into neutral by accident (felt the four clicks to drive, but was inbetween the drive and neutral position so it went into neutral) coming out of a parallel park and hit the gas so i could merge into traffic only to roll backwards with my engine revving. i ended up an inch from the car parked behind me. if it was a hill.......

This one is definately on my to do list, granted I'd like to do it with an Alacantra boot.

I understand what you mean, but personally, the PRND shows up on the dash too, so the absence of the lights in the center doesn't pose itself as a problem to me.

Haha yeah, my friend says I should've done alcantara accents, but then that'd mean I'd have to shell out $$ to replace the ebrake boot and eh... maybe in the future

Although, how does it work with the wires/lights from original bezel? Can you just took all that underside in down there? Also, how did you pop off the bezel part (P, D, N, etc)

When removing the original boot, the bezel is attached to the underside of the boot (as shown by the gap in my picture where the bezel would normally be). You'll need to remove a bracket that is securing the wires and take out the three torx screws (T-5 size) securing the bezel. After that, the bezel and its wires can be tucked into an empty spot that resides inside the trim.

As you can see in this last picture, the bezel, when tucked away, doesn't interfere when the car is in D.

I'm not sure about new ones from the dealer, but searching through the private sale threads, I've seen them go for about $10-$40.

I heard Ironic's PNP had problems with AT cars...DS shifted in and out...Make sure it works before buying the knob!

I also read about that. I am waiting for confirmation from both cases before placing an order for the knob..

YUP, and it said drive, but it was engaged in neutral. The shifter was literally inbetween the drive and neutral position so i guess the electronics read drive when the engine read neutral
