Snow and E90

Just ditched the BMW .Had to walk home totally pissed off ! 2" snow and the car is stuffed so dissapointed thought it would be a little better traction control light went mental turned that off and still no joy .

I will recover the beast when the weather warms up .So i will have to walk to work tomorrow and grap a TD5 LANDROVER and see how that behaves may even tow the BMW home :mad0 259:

I just had some fun around Wakefield/Leeds.

To be fair I would say the 335D is s**t in snow, if I am perfectly honest, but I still had a lot of fun and got home in one piece.

I did try to get up a hill at one point, but it wasnt happening.. Let it roll/slide back down and then just hit it at pace following my own tracks, traction control fully off, flappy paddles set to 2nd/3rd when I could and I shot up it fishtailing like crazy before sliding more or less all the way back down lol!!!

i drove from Bayswater to hounslow.

No probs, but was going slow, but yes I did get some slide just getting up the kerb into the drive... but slow and gentle was excellent traction really, felt stable and gear change on the auto was very smooth, and I only pushed the DTC button to turn on DTC but didnt disengage the traction fully.

Almost span once, at 10mph on a side road in bayswater, but that was fun as the road was clear.

Prob keep it in the drive tomorrow and use the other car.

Should have done a little better with DTC on and use of a higher gear, to allow for spin and reduce torque at the rear.

Having said that, last time we had proper snow here, I couldn't get of the drive. Wheels just span and the car slid sideways into the flowerbeds.

just watched some 5series and E classes get up the road, they seem to not be aware the minute they hit a slope its going to be hard going, if at all. The snow is just sludge and no doubt will be ice soon.

Never had such a poor car in adverse weather.

All cars are shit in the snow without WINTER tyres, period. Not just BMW's. This includes 4x4's with smooth, grippy road rubber.

Because we don't get too much snow none of us are prepared for it, so no skinny, little wheels and no super grippy winter/snow tyres. Then we wonder why the country comes to an abrupt standstill

It'll all be gone by Wednesday anyway so best get out and play while you can

Just cleared some kids off, taking snow off my car. annoys me because they can cause all kinds of scrathes on it with what they wear.

So ive just been outside and cleaned all the snow off it.

I was considering going to work on the motorbike today aswell, but thought better of it and took the day off instead.

Just been out all morning in the snow. Could not get any further than Surrey cos M25 was blocked.
Thought car would be tricky with rwd but I was impressed as it was really stable in some very icy patches.

Traction control light was very active esepcialy on A308 and A30, but apart from some fish tailign car kept going, and i got home safely. can;t ask for any more, well except maybe for more sense next time to work from home

Just got back to London from Prague, driving a LWB 7m long Mercedes Sprinter van..! 17 hours in total, no sleep, including waiting an interminably long time (3 hours) for the Eurotunnel train

Was clear all the way from Prague to Calais - came out at Folkestone this morning at 7am and it was like I'd entered a different world!!! Had immense fun coming back into London - can't believe how much snow there is!!! Got the van stuck totally sideways on the slope outside my flat Brother wedged cardboard under the wheels so I could spin the van round. It's now ditched at the bottom of the slope - no hope of going anywhere in that!

Got straight in the BM - out the garage into the snow and sludge... immense fun and loads of grip even uphill as I have winter tyres on Can feel the diff working out which side of the rear wheels to send the torque to - am loving this weather!!!

what kind of tires do you have on the car?

Any rear wheel drive car with the wrong tires will suck in the snow... thats life!

I am using the Vredestein Wintrac Extreme - fantastic winter tyre, and not expensive either
