BMW tech to look at my car...UPDATE!!

Supposed to take my car in next week for a BMW "Tech" to look at my car. I've had my car in the shop repeatedly over the last few months about long crank times. I've had my HPFP replaced once already but supposedly its something different going on or the BMW repair guys are stupid!! So they have some BMW tech guy coming in from somewhere to look at my car. I have a V3 on my car but its been out for 2 months while they try and figure out whats wrong with it. Plus last time I took it in, when I would crank it in the morning(cold) it would take forever to crank. Then the RPM's would dip back and forth sometimes so low my car would throw the limp mode light. They supposedly "reset" something and they also told me it had looked like I chipped my car. I was under the impression that if you run the Doomsday Map it makes the V3 undetectable?? I was just wondering how they know everytime I take my car in?
After the "reset" my car doesn't go into limp mode in the morning but it still has long crank times and it idles funny. My appt is for Wed next week so I'm hoping they find out whats wrong. My car has 45K miles on it.

UPDATE>>

Got my car back Friday. They said they had to replace the HPFP again and everything was working. Picked up car and got about 3 miles away and limp mode light comes on!!! So its back in the shop again!! Drove it all weekend and if I got on the car above 3k RPM the light would come on. Wierd thing about it was that the car didn't really feel any different when the light did come on. Just don't know,...frustration is mounting.....

How long did you have the V3 installed?

Did you have any other mods? Which map(s) did you run?

I hope this works out!

Why would you call the "repair guys" stupid? Sometimes these cars are very difficult to diagnose. There's times when we have to have an engineer come out and look at the car. It in no way means we are stupid.

2nd....Obviously within the each service dept, there are some techs that are more skilled than others, and I have identified those and ALWAYS request that tech. The first tech that worked on my car forgot a Rocker when doing some Cam Shaft work!

I wouldn't say he was stupid, but VERY CARELESS!

Also the Field Engineers generally have the MOST current data on vehicles, so consider it a good thing they called him.

Also if you run doomsday the Dealer should not be able to scope that you had a tune. I know from First Hand experience...V3 passes Field Engineer and Dealer Diagnostics with FLYING colors.

+1 Just let the dealership do their thing. As for detection of the PROcede, it's very unlikely. Chances are that they are just trying to get you to admit it because there is physical evidence of the ECU box being opened up and violated. If they haven't talked about your ECU tripping a manipulation code during the last few visits, I don't think you have anything to worry about. Just stick to your guns and get your car running right.

That just sounds Dirtay Shiv!

to add to my response above...It's always a good idea to be extra nice to your SA and Tech if you get to meet him...Because it will make the whole process MUCH smoother. Stick to your guns as Shiv advised.

Also after they complete the work, the icing on the cake should be a nice note to the SA's Manager to compliment your SA, as long as everything was completed properly. This never hurts for future visits.

Good Luck...and Don't worry.

I wonder if a manufacturer has ever subpoenaed a vendor of go-fast parts for their customer lists or a message board for their server logs.

I was by no means refering to anybody, including you, other than the 2 guys that work at the BMW dealership I take my car to. And yes they are idiots. I understand about these cars being very difficult to diagnose but there is no excuse for the things they have done to my car! Everytime I have taken my car into service they have messed up something not even related to what was being fixed. Examples,...hole in door panel below mirror from trying to pry my tweeter off to replace my mirror, broken motor cover from replacing my spark plugs, which I replaced myself and they left out back bolt, striped out the 8mm bolts that hold the microfilter in place as well as broke one of the plastic tabs that hold it in place, broke one of the brakets that hold the large wire loom to the bulk head tray, numerous dirt spots on the "A" pillar and marks on the inside of the windshield from putting whatever diagnostic machine on my dash as well as his large ars footprint on my floor mats every single time I bring my car in. And these all took place on separate occasions. Plus a big ars scratch on the outside of the door.

So you must understand my frustration. I've been working on cars for 30 yrs and I always work on every car like its my own and I'm sure you do as well.

I have had the ProCede in and out of my car since it came out. The only other mods I have are a Vishnu CAI. And I run the latest Doomsday Map.

thanks

What all have they done to your car?

has the only thing they've replaced been the HPFP? did they replace the electric fuel pump after the replacement of the HPFP?

It def sounds like a fuel supply issue you're having, and more than once have i seen the low pressure and high pressure fuel pumps cause similar conditions.

They have only replaced the HPFP. It does sound like the electric fuel pump going out cause it makes some weird sounds like an electric motor trying to turn over when I start it and after it starts and it seems to be coming from driver side on other side of firewall...

And they replaced my spark plugs and a bad injector.

Do you leave in or take out your CAI? (actually it's a DCI)
