New UK Technical/Tuning Forum
The UK forum seems to be growing really fast with new members joining and contributing daily.
There is also a marked increase in ECU remapping questions, techincal questions etc. which if grouped together in their own subsection would allow people to access this information much quicker. Would there be any chance of adding this to the UK section? We have a member (E92fan) who I think would be ideal as a moderator for this section due to his in depth knowledge. Look forward to hearing thoughts on this. BTW Great forum.

There is also the consideration that the UK leads the field worldwide in tuning for diesel engines, everything from the 320d to the 335d. Now that these engines are being introduced to the USA, there is going to be an increase in demand for diesel tuning worldwide, and the UK forum will be the place (as it is already for Europeans) to visit for diesel tuning Q&As.
I think the way the UK forum is growing, with so many more members joining and being an active part of the forum, we will need to categorise the UK side a little bit, with a specific section for "technical" aspects, and hence the need for an additional moderator. This will be in addition to the main US technical subsection, as although the US side is very active, it centres completely around Procede/JB3 & Dinan - all of which are largely irrelevant to the European market. I am also conscious of the fact that there are now three UK-based forum sponsors, all competitors of each other, and I know that there are two other UK companies who are looking into the forum with a view to becoming sponsors. We have so far managed to avoid any serious tuner-tantrums or conflicts between the sponsors and forum members - we need to ensure that the balance is continued, hence the need for extra moderation.

A UK tech section would be great - some dealers over here reject any technical information I find on E90Post because "BMW America is different from BMW AG". Never mind that the car is the same...

Totally agree with Will. I have only been a member for less than a year I have seen the same questions asked many times over. A place to go for info and tech stuff is the way to go.

So what happens with the existing UK section ?
We have "UK off-topic" and there exist 12 specialist Technical sections. Twelve. What do you propose we call the present UK section ??? "UK BMW (but not technical), oh - and not really off-topic either" By all means, E92fan would make a good technical mod - especially with his pprobing nature and insight, and also with the imminent introduction of Diesels to the US and the subsequent uninformed blethers from the other side of the pond having someone who is in command of objective facts would be great. But this diversification of Forum sections, is it really useful ? Give me one example of a question that you can't post in any of the existing 12 technical sections. Aprt from being too apathetic to go look in another section. It doesn't matter if there is a specific UK technical questions forum section - regardless of its name or location, the same questions will get asked over and over again. Human nature and the inability to read through a large thread or quickly search. D.

Personally I think it a great idea.
Whilst there are as Dave has pointed out already a great number of technical sections, the regional differences between Europe and the US are vast, with a great number of different companies offering their tuning ranges exclusively on one side of the atlantic or the other. Given such a regional variation it therefore seems logical to have separate sections for the US and UK/Euopean tuning companies. Furthermore, as more UK based companies join (or think of joining) the sponsors of E90Post, having a section where they can answer queries from members within their own markets would seem to be both logical and also sensible in trying to attract and cater for them. As for E92Fan becoming a moderator of such a section, that would seem to be a no-brainer. As well as being a thoroughly pleasant fellow, his wealth of technical knowledge, and contacts with both tuning houses and BMW in the UK would make anyone else a poor substitute.

yes...good idea...helps with organizing all the threads and grouping them....wasn't really feeling this forum when I first joined...as I was used to the Integra DC5 Forum where everything is extremely organised and where admin are very strict on what you write and where you write etc...I can feel that the e90post uk forum is definitely more chilled out and I am quite used to it now!!!...

Proposed 'UK Technical Forum'

I think there are a few reasons for proposing a new 'UK Technical Forum': 1 There are quite specific differences between the US & UK/European E9X markets. The area of re-mapping is one area where differences between the availability of different products means that UK members will naturally look for UK-oriented products in the UK forum. An increasing number of diesel-owning US E9x owners will also be making use of the UK section, as a result of the large number of useful diesel-related threads already available here. 2 There is likely to be an increasing number of UK Forum sponsors in the near future, all of whom are in the tuning market. Currently, the UK sponsors consist of Evolve Automotive, SpeedReligion, AL Tuning & Superlative Autosport. Other companies, particularly those related to tuning, have shown an interest in signing up. In order to provide both an area to allow them to advertise & to answer questions about their products, it would seem appropriate to create a 'Technical' section, of which 'tuning' would be a part. 3 There are currently over 7000 threads within all of the UK Forum- more than for any other regional forum. The sheer number of threads & the availability of only the 'main' & 'OT' UK forums makes it very difficult to organise all of the information to make searching easier. I agree that threads could potentially be categorised into a number of sub-forums within a proposed 'Technical' sub-forum. However, there is no intention to currently split the 'Technical' sub-forum further than a minimum of 'Tuning'. As Dave has said, the main Bimmerpost forum does have 12 Technical sub-forums. Although they do all cater for the UK market to some small degree, I really do think it would be 'better' to have a UK Technical sub-forum which specifically caters for both UK members & UK sponsors alike. The main UK Forum is actually a large, important & varied source of information for not just UK members (& BMW dealerships & BMW UK ), but for those from Europe & the rest of the world also. I receive regular PMs from friends who are members from the States, Asia & Europe, all of whom are extremely happy & reliant upon the information provided by the UK section. I hope that continues & I think that the incorporation of a UK Technical section will be one way of improving the current UK Forum setup. It's intended for the 'General','OT' & 'Classified' UK sections to continue as they are. Any threads which are deemed to be asking a specific technical question eg tuning product related, audio, bluetooth, idrive related, engine/drivetrain etc.. will be re-directed to the 'Technical' subforum, where Tony (E92Fan) will moderate. I shall still remain as the main UK moderator. There were a lot of views posted concerning the current 'UK Off-Topic' subforum, before I proposed the need for it, in November 2007. It seems to have 'grown' on all those who were against it in the early days. Thanks & all the best. Viv |

I think it's a very good idea - especially since I've seen UK questions on the U.S. forum which didn't get any answers because the question was not locale specific, and vice versa as well.
