Driving this weekend, hit some ice - not front wheel is crooked
Hey!
So i was driving this weekend to my g/f's place and went to pass someone, and well didnt see that the road was not plowed well, and ended up hitting a chunk of ice or snow in the road. The car bouced up in the air ( sounded bad) and then noticed that the steering wheel was all crooked. Anyways, got the car re-aligned becase it was all out of whack, and not the front drivers side has WAY TOO MUCH negative camber, like 5 degrees. the tire looks like its on a Huge angle. Took the wheel off and didnt see any major problems, the lower control arms look fine, so i'm not sure what is wrong? Could i have bent the Strut / shock ??? Any ideas |

If you want to go it alone and try and fix it yourself you may wind up swapping a number of parts. It could take months to fix doing it piecemeal. You may save a bit but to me, unless you get lucky, it really doesn't seem worth it. Good luck. BB

Good luck with your repairs and let us know what the dealer says. I'm interested in hearing what is wrong with it.

Well - dealership was a bunch of BS.... Quoted me $3100 for new struts, carrier, tie rods, and other stuff.
Took the car apart and Well - i Bent the Strut - BAD.... That is all that is wrong though. So time to buy 2 new struts and then car is as good a new. |

Are you judging that it's 'just the strut' by visual inspection, or did you measure the parts out? If you jacked your strut, you probably did damage to the rest as well, and just b/c you can't see the damage doesn't mean that things aren't bent... If the dealer ahs good reason to want to replace these parts, I'd do it.

On some cars you only need to replace one. On my '92 190E they just replaced the one that got bent. You put on the strut(s), you get the car aligned, if it falls within specs, you're fine.
