Unreal. The doubters are going to eat crow when this beast is unleashed.

Nice! Would love to see how a tuned X5 35d drives. Perhaps that'll be what replaces our LR3 one of these years....

I got to drive the demo 335d unit at Stevens Creek BMW. Let's just say, they were not fond of me lighting up the tires in the parking lot. I blamed the ridiculous amount of low end torque.
The car redlines at 5K rpm ... makes me feel a bit confined. |

i've tried a tuned 535d, and it's most fun in the midrange mph. my stock 335i is much more fun to drive everyday. this might be because i love the higher redline and the sound of a gasoline engine.

i would say that anything sprints between 50 and 75 is won by a diesel, just because of the torque in the low revs... i remember reading a 330d@245hp doing this sprint in 4,8s in the 4th gear... and all this with you 40+ mpg

Problem is american 335d are way too held back for my taste, because of emissions' laws. European ones have 286hp and 560nm bone stock, good for 320hp and 700nm just with a quick reflash, not to mention what Shiv and his team could get out of such beast. Which BTW has another issue besides power restrictions because of emissions: DPF.
Can't seriously tune a 335d without empty out the DPF, possibly removing the cats as well. Which would turn the car into a black-smoking device
