50000km service + brake change
Hey all,
long time no post here ![]() My car just hit 50000km and due for the brake change + service. Anyone here got their brakes change at BMW dealer? How much did they charge you? If too expensive I will be looking at aftermarket options...DBA rotors + Hawk HPS pads (on sale now) cheers,

I had my brakes changed at 40,000klms from the dealer. Front pads + rotors and rear pads only was about $750 including labour which I thought was very reasonable. I'll be due for a 50,000klm service in the next 2 months but looking at the CBS info display, the only thing relatively close is an oil change so I expect that with whatever else they check, should only cost $500.

Changed my previous 325ci e46 at around 50000ks. I was told just the front brakes needs replacing. Dealer actually changed the disc and pads which cost around $750.
I asked why disc need to be changed so soon and was told the discs on the coupes are a softer material that will brake better. The downside is that disc need to be changes more frequent like the pads ![]() Rear brakes should last till 75000ks. |

It depends on how you drive the car. I got 40,000 klms out of my pads. We all know our BMW's stop well and this is due to the compound in the brake pads and rotors. You can go afternarket on brake pads and rotors but my past experiance with cheaper options like bendix is that the braking is not as efficient. ATE is the brand BMW has used as an OEM supplier at least in the E36/E46 and E39 and I've had good experiance with these when doing brake changes outside of a BMW dealer. As I mentioned in my above post, the cost of the brake service was very resonable and while I possibly could have saved $100 by getting it done somewhere else, it's not worth skimping on the most important piece of safety equipment your car has.
FYI ... I've had my 50,000klm service and while I was quoted $500, I only got charged $242 as it only needed an oil service. |

Had the all four brake pads and sensors replaced at around 54000kms last year. My wallet copped a battering! Can't remember the exact amount but was somewhere near the $1500 mark!!!
