Just to add fuel to the fire...
Nicely tuned E92 335s are decently faster than stock E92 M3s on the hwy: low speed, high speed, it doesn't matter. I just found out, 3 times. Whoever said they are faster above 100 doesn't know what they are talking about, it got worse as we continued over 100, every time. M3 dude was very cool about it and was impressed, as was I.
It makes sense though. For some reason I can't get the MPH to show up at the track, but my car pulls my buddy's 116 mph E55 from a roll every time. Either way, it was a fun race, and I'm glad I finally have some personal experience with the new M3, they sound phenomenal at WOT even with the stock exhaust.

Not a very healthy breakfast, but probably rich in iron?

Meh, replacements can be had for $500
I guess there is labor too...but who's counting? But who are we kidding? an M3 is an M3, and as a day to day track car it is a superior platform to our 335i's....Between the road feel, direct steering among many other area it's just a totally different machine. BUT the majority of my driving is city and the low end TQ is much more practical as I don't have many opportunities to run out that beast of a V8 to 6,000+ RPMS' |

lol, i find it amusing that since many 335i owners KNOW their car can make an m3 look a little bad with way less money put in, they seem to like to make the m3 seem "oh-so-superior"... i mean sure, you can supercharge an m3 now etc but how many people do?
a 335i does have more pros than an m3 and we all know that, especially when you say "an M3 is an M3, and as a day to day track car it is a superior platform to our 335i's" it's just saying: "yeah, okay, your m3 is good on the track which many of us will never end up going to, but if you saw me on the street and you dont have a $5-10K supercharger on your m3, you just cant trash talk about how much better your car is!" no? oh and i'd honestly love to have an m3, but not as an everyday car... kills the whole joy.

It's always been so funny to me that modded 335s always have to beat the new m3 (when they can't even take out the old modded m3s in straights or corners). 335 came out what 2 years before the new m3? The aftermarket is behind, but it's about to catch up in a VERY big way, so enjoy what you think (again can't even touch old m3) is your time while it lasts.

We know that a fully modded 335i is faster in a straight line than a stock M3. We also know M3 owners are too stubborn to believe this. What do you intend to gain from this thread? A bunch of folks explaining in what situations the M3 is better and what situations the 335 is better? 335i's have moved on to the M5... Its sad when a $400 chip makes the 335 in par with the brand new M3. Like it or not those are the facts, and any mod that will make the new M3 a hp freak will cost anywhere from 15-30K. At that rate I'd just get a ZR1, GTR, 911tt... real sports cars

And because a supra and crx can't go around corners like an m3 or have luxury etc. A 335 has some of the luxury and prestige but loses a bit, but I just left that point out in order to drive home the point that 335s owners only think they are better at anything other then having somewhat better straight line speed per cost (while still lacking the much higher ceiling of an m3. Not even when I still liked my 335 did I try to pretend the car was better, faster then a stock m3 sure, better no.

It's an endless argument. I just felt like fanning the flames. As to whats better, I have a 335 for the street, which is better on the street. I'll add another Evo for the track, which is much better on the track. I really don't care that my car is faster than a stock M3, I was just curious to see how it stacked up, but for MY needs with this particular car, what it does for me is better than an M3 would be. For others, their needs might be different, and that is certainly just fine, the M3 is a great car.

Its interesting how bickering between what cars are better than what only takes place with street racing. I have never seen anything like this at the dragstrip, where definitive winners are actually decided.

335i is damn good at the strip compared to the M3...Terry and Shiv have comfortably entered the 11's with their melter (or max boost for Mr. Pathak's V3) maps. Last edited by vgame64; 02-15-2009 at 12:58 PM.. |

Screw it and keep beating this dead horse baby! Guess what the M3 owners who mod their cars compare themselves to? M5/M6s? The fact remains that the cars are perfect matches for each individual and their needs.
Do you want a better daily driver - 335 Do you want a better road track car - M3 Do you want more bang for your buck - 335 Do you want prestige and racing heritage - M3 Do you want a gerbil with pink bow dancing to MC Hammer? - uh sorry You get the idea. But I do love the M3 owners argument that 335 owners just couldn't afford the M. The cars are only 15k apart, money was not the gap, at least for me but that don't mean I wasn't looking for best performance for my dollar. |
