minor hit, call geico?

Sigh... I parked in SOHO for dinner tonight. It wasn't easy to find a spot. I had to pick one I normally won't take. It is first parking spot right by the corner.

When I picked up the car, there were two long scratch on the driver side fender. The bumper cover was 'pulled' out. The side marker on the bumper is gone. There's a big black plastic bar hanging behind the bumper cover. I think it is a support bar originally sit under the headlight.

I think I have $1k deductible with Geico. Should I call Geico or go to a Geico inspection place and get a quote? would it affect my rate or anything? Just tell them it is the typical NYC hit and walk?

Thank in advance for you input.

Not sure about Geico, but I call my insurance for anything more than a scratch now just incase something else is damaged that doesn't come to the surface until later. Especially if it was someone else that hit me. I want a report on file with them. To much of a risk of the other person who hit you filing a claim against you saying you hit them and causing a shit storm.

I don't think it will effect your rates unless they have to pay out for something.

If its a 1k deductible you will have to shell out the first k in repairs..but seem slike you could get away with just a new bumper skin and a repaint..but that will be more than 1k...

No Fault accidents usually dont increase your rates however..but I could be wrong because Geico has done some shady shit latley to a lot of people I know including me, and they raised our rates for no reason. I called them up to ask them why and they didnt have an answer. So who knows what they will do to you because everyones hurting so they might jack your rates anyway to make some extra money.

They are getting dropped next month when my 335 returns. Its sad they will do this to a customer of 10 years.

I don't have any advice to give you on insurance but you are awfully calm for someone whose car got hit. I would be really ticked off. Some jerkoff left a huge wad of gum on my car last night and I was pissed. I wish there was some kind of system that can track when people do these kinds of things to your car.

Good luck with the car.

I'm getting old and lost the anger. It happened right by NYU and right outside a bar. This is NYC and I don't expect someone would come out and tell me he/she would like to be a witness.

Checked behind the bumper cover, I found the metal bumper surprisingly short under the kidney grills. The plastic bumper looks big, but it snapped approximately under the middle of the headlight. It is hanging inside by a cable link to the fog light.

I think it would take some time to get the OEM parts. So I called the Gecko already. I will take the car to one of these "autorepair express" center, i.e. a body shop with a Geico logo, and get the whole "customer experience" on Tue.

Thanks guys.
