If you don't even know where the reservoir is I think you'd be better leaving a fluid change to somebody who does....

Not too sure on the 3 series but is there a resevoir straight ahead of the brake pedal in the engine bay near the bulk head?

What needs doing on this? Is it a fluid change?

Wouldn't bother doing it yourself mate, you are due for a service soon anyway, just get them to do it then. And make sure they change it all! not just suck as much out as they can then top it up as they did with mine.

If the same as the 330d....

Open the bonnet and locate the black plastic cover at the rear of the engine bay infront of the driver. There is a clip front and rear and a flexible wim-wom to hold the outside corner down.

If it isn't under that one, try the other side.

OK, but it still seems strange that you're going to undertake a fluid change without knowing where the reservoir is. It's on the drivers side attached to the master cylinder sticking out of the brake servo.

You can do it yourself if you just want to change the fluid in the brake pipes / brake cylinders / master cylinder and reservoir but you need special equipment to completely flush the DSC high-pressure pre-chrage section. It's also a two-man job, jacking up each wheel in turn, to to loosen the bleed-nipple and pump the brakes, unless you use a pressurised brake fluid system such as Ezi-Bleed.

Unfortunately I don't have a picture of the reservoir location on me but I'm sure you'll find it.

Its not that strange of a question. Everything is hidden on this car with the assumption that
1) you are going to take it to the dealer to work on it (wonder why they quit putting lights in the engine compartment?)
2) People want a pretty looking engine bay since they never work on the car anyway

BMW doesn't give you didly for normal maintenance info because of #1, and there are no maintenance manuals out yet. So, we are left to poke around here for hopes we will find something.

I've done decades of brake fluid changes (fairly often because of track days), but I'll be darned if I could find the resoivor without starting to pull all of the plastic pieces out of the engine bay looking for it.

Thanks for the photo above!!!
