Amazing Fuel Consumption 320D ED
Thought I would drive like Miss Daisy and see what fuel consumption I could acheive. Drove for 148 miles mainly on motorways and A roads and averaged about 65 mph.
The car has been re-mapped by evolve and covered 4500 miles since new. Average consumption was 62.7 MPG Really profitable as I can claim 28p per mile but also very boring. Well done to BMW though for efficient dynamics and a good engine. Foot down tomorrow to offset the fuel saving of today |

Re set my computer on Monday and then drove the 330 miles to Sunderland. Averaged a speed I wouldn't like to admit to here, let alone the top speed. Averaged 49 - 50 mpg. Currently down to 47 after 2 days of commuting from hotel to the office. Driving back home tomorrow via Leeds so will be interesting if it goes back to the 41 mpg it was prior to the reset.

I needed to convert the mpg to L/100km, and 4.5 L/100km is very good.

When my car had only 3500 miles on it, I'd left Birmingham to return north and was on the phone one call after another all along the M42 and well up M1, so was only driving steady & constant 55~60 mph.
Stopped at Woodhall services M1 North to fill up, and this was the range showing after refuelling!!! during that journey, I had seen 68 & 70mpg on the computer, but didn't believe it. However, working out the actual mpg - from last fill-up using litres & mileage, it was a genuine 68.9 mpg: and again some time later (10k miles), typical mpg figures. Absolutely amazing!

I tend to be getting about 85 - 90 mostly... oh, i see, we're talking about mpg not mph. Ohwell! Can't say I've ever tried to get my ED running as efficicently as it can.
Hey diesel people, can you tell on your models when the ED kicks in? example: on mine when you're being gentle on the gas pedal for about 10 seconds you get a little tiny judder (feels like some of the the cyls are being shut down) and then the mpg gauge just shoots into 50+ Just curious!

It's nowhere near the derv consumption figure, but I just managed 30mpg on two seperate 240 mile drives in my CLK55 - which for those who don't know is a 5.4 V8. ( I dodn't buy it for its economy by the way!) I wasn't driving like a 'granny with cellulitis' either. I was driving in a 'spirited' fashion most of the time. I no longer buy into the 'diesel is best' fraternity. It (derv) now costs 12% (or so) more than petrol and diesel cars cost more to service..... I'd rather have some fun and have a car that sounds great!
