Oil Running Hot and No Oil Cooler?

Just got my 07 e92 335i (10/06 production) about 2 weeks ago and realized that i dont think i have an oil cooler. i have sport package and ive been running a little hot (3 ticks past half) and i just took a look in the passenger wheel well and NO FINS!@!@

The car is just out of warranty (51k ). Will BMW retrofit an oil cooler for free or am I going to have to shell out the dough? Suggestions?

3 ticks past half - that makes what 240?, i don't think thats considered dangerously hot.

in fact the 2008's have 250 degrees as the midpoint on the gauge.

Mines doesn't have one either, i get about 250-260. I don't track so wouldn't worry too much about it.

I have zero experience on something like this (past warranty) so this is just speculation but... I imagine it will have a lot to do with the way you approach the matter. If you are polite, make a friend and act like it is something they owe to you (without being confrontational) then I believe you will have a pretty good chance. If not, you can always get tough with them later

Also, I remember them being very eager to please so that I would give them a perfect score on the survey, I got a flat 1 day after buying mine and they replaced it for free because "it could have easily happened on their lot" (their words).

Finally the sooner you take it in the better chance you will have.

Good Luck let us know how it works out.

BMW will retrofit an oil cooler as long as you pay for it. As long as you don't plan on tracking your car, your car will do fine without an oil cooler.

Dinan has one as well. Actually it seems to be the only option available RIGHT NOW that has all the parts one without one would need to install. (Can't find any pricing on the VK complete kit on their website, and ar hasn't released any pricing on their retrofit kit.)

Yes we carry the ar design oil cooler kit with a retrofit for those who do not currently have a oil cooler with the option to add another oil cooler in the upcoming stage 2 kit.

Did I mention it is on sale right now as well?

I have an 07 e92 and it ran up to 300 the other day. I complained to my dealer and to BMW of NA and they are retrofitting one for me. My car is scheduled for a day at the spa on march 2.

Because you are not the original owner, you will have a very hard time getting the retrofit from BMWNA, but its probably worth a try at least.

Don't call the dealer. Go right for BMW NA.

I have a tune with no oil cooler and I drive very hard and the car stays between 250-260. When i'm driving normal its between 230-240 and I live in Texas.

I am around 210-230 normally. I think most of the tunes will make the normal operating temperature go down. If you are getting close to 300 your limp mode should be kicking in though.
