e90 central locking failure!

My car has "fallen foul" of central locking failure

A quick search of the forum indicates I am not alone!

Changed the blown fuse (No. 72 in my case) and everything is working again perfectly.

Phoned the dealer (car still has 10 months warranty left on it) and they said to "see how I get on" but to "bring it in if it happens again".

Am I being stupid hoping that the fuse won't blow again and all will be ok?

Any advice appreciated - Thanks

Everything should be fine.

Fuses are designed to blow to prevent more serious electrical issues. You should be fine after replacing the blown fuse, so your hopes are neither in vain or in ignorance.

BMW has told us to use a larger fuse (20amp instead of 15), and then measure the amperage draw of all four lock actuators. If any of the actuators draw more than 3.3 amps on the flat of the graph, then you replace that actuator.

happened about a month ago. All passenger doors dead locked. Replaced fuse and all three door actuator (shorted actuators). If ever happen again, this car will gone. Imagine what will happen during an accident.

What he said! I had the same issue, but I took it to the dealer instead of changing the fuse myself.. I wanted to make sure all was good and clear.

Did the doors lock, or did they not work at all?

The driver's door locked (and wouldn't unlock for me!) and the other doors remained unlocked. Since I changed the fuse all has been fine.

Rang the dealer - they said to bring it into them if it happens again.

she told me that she couldnt use her car and she was like "well i have 10 miles to empty and my gas tank doesnt unlock." Then i showed her the emergency gas door release and she was like "oh i didnt know it was there"

Hi,

The central locking system failed on my 320d 2007 yesterday. Pulling out the batter or changing the fuse doesnt seem to help.

Can you suggest something?

Thanks.

My front passengar door central locking failed today. Where are the fuses in question that I need to check as all other doors work ok.

I currently have this problem with the drivers door not locking/unlocking on a 320d E90. Initially no doors were opening, I changed the fuse 57 that was blown and now all doors except the drivers door works.

The fuse panel is in the glove box behind the back panel. Fuse 57 is at the bottom left corner, second one in.

From most searches it seems this problem is an actuator, and is going to be expensive...unless anybody knows a cheaper solution...

I second that.

I sent my car back under warranty and endedup havng both passenger side actuators replaced which was the cause of the fuse. They're not difficult to change, but it's a large unit as it contains the door latch too, so the cheapest way to replace is to buy from a breaker and fit it yourself.

There's a good BMW breaker in Sheffield, but get one that's tested as it's stating to sound quite common.

I'm new here.... Sorry this is the only way I can find to post?

Hi guys/girls.
I have a central locking problem, but it's very specific. Had all dorrs deadlocked, only access was manual through driver door. Checked the fuses, all seemed OK. Then! Checked the drivers side actuator, and bought a new one. Plugged that in, and still the same. No locking/unlocking off the key, also not locking/unlocking off the dash button. However the key when long pressed will retract the wing mirrors, and the lights flash as normal. Now I find that fuse 57 blows as soon as its plugged in? Sparks, and blows. Obvious short, but does anyone have any idea where to start looking for it. Are there any well known areas a short could occur?
Thanks!

Welcome to the Forum!
Questions:
1) What are Last-7 Characters of your VIN? I presume it's 2007 or earlier Build Date?
2) What Make/Model Scan Tool or Diagnostic Software (INPA/ISTA) do you have available?
3) ALL Fault Codes in JBE & CAS Modules?
4) Do you have a Multimeter?
5) Any visible damage to: wiring loom at any door hinge? Boot Latch? Fuel Filler Flap?
6) Any water ingress in area of JBE Module which plugs into bottom of JB Fuse Panel, beneath Glovebox?

With answers to those questions (as many as you are able to answer), we can furnish ISTA ScreenPrints of wiring, & suggest Tests to locate short.
