weather stripping above windshield cracking

Hey all,

So the weather strip at the top of my front windshield has recently started to show severe cracking and wear. It's happened in a surprisingly short time, it was definitely in good condition when I got the car back out of storage about a month ago. There has been a lot of (relatively) cold nights and hot, sunny days lately here and I'm thinking maybe that contributed.

Anyway, I took it over to Chapman BMW on Camelback and they're saying they won't replace it because I bought it used from another dealer. I explained that it wasn't in that condition when I bought it, but to no avail. I've read other posts saying people have had this kind of thing covered under warranty. Anyone have any advice?

I actually need to take mine in for the same thing. the rubber stripping at the top of the windshield is starting to crack, and the stripping at the bottom of the rear has come off it's adhesive, and sort of hanging below the top edge of the trunk.

funny, my 20-year-old honda's weather stripping is still holding up fine

Yeah that sucks. The very first time I scraped my windshield due to ice in the morning, my scraper hit the weather stripping and took a big ass chunk out of it. I don't get anywhere near the edge of the windshield when scraping now. Let me know how much it costs to get replaced if you have to do it yourself.

It shouldn't cost him anything. It will be warrantied.

The dealer swapped out the one in my Z4 days before the warrantee ran out without any questions. I would press them or call BMWNA.

I second that. As mentioned by another posted, my bottom stripping on my rear window is coming off. It actually looks like it stretched somehow as when I push it up its too long to all fit on the windowsil now.

If your in warranty they should repair it regardless, tell them you hear wind noise from the windshield area and your afraid it's going to start leaking. Does this dealership do your free maintenance? If so, not any difference in how they get paid from BMW, just my thoughts...

Same story with upper windshield rubber cracking and coming off in big chunks at highway speeds. Had it replaced six days ago by an indy. Said the glass had to come out. Total cost was $110.42 which included labor.

Yes, I followed a DIY posted here recently and had it done in under an hour for less than $30, cold beer included!
