Dinan 335i Intake, 335i xDrive Products

I’m happy to announce that the Dinan 335i intake has completed the design phase! I know at least a few of you have been waiting for details, and we appreciate your patience. Due to the amount of testing and design work that goes into our products, we’re often slow to market, and this intake system is certainly no exception. I think you’ll find that it’s worth the wait.

Here's a model:

This is essentially an auxiliary intake that works in conjunction with the stock setup by opening a new airway from a high pressure area low on the bumper and through an opening in a redesigned lid. This intake can rightfully be called a cold air intake because the new inlet is located outside of the engine bay, behind the front valance, where it’s exposed to outside air. The metal block-off plates support the intake tubing and prevent heat from migrating to the filter from the engine bay, creating an effective air filter cavity. The image above will give you a feel for how everything works, but I can answer any questions. I don’t have the official power figures yet, but in pressure tap tests this system dramatically reduces the intake vacuum levels found with the stock setup. I’ll post updates when I get more information.

On a different note, a few products that were previously unavailable for the 335i xDrive models have recently been released. Here’s the list:

-Free Flow Exhaust
-High Capacity Oil Cooler
-Performance Intercooler
-Stage 3 Engine Software
-Stage 1, 2, and 3 Suspension Systems
-Lightweight Flywheel

Thanks!

I guess the original plans were scrapped?

How does the intake prevent water from entering the engine?

Awesome! Please let us know any updates, and if you have a tentative release date and pricing, that would be great as well! Please don't tell me it's another $2000.00 though...

Very cool. Now, give us the sub $350 price and we're good to go!

A few questions/observations:

1. - As Bubbles asked, how is this as far as risk of sucking up water?

2. - What type of filter?

3. - What is the recommended cleaning interval?

4. - What needs to be removed/moved to install? Anything need to be cut?

5. - I assume there was some reason for going with this setup which retains BMW's stock bottom end of the airbox, vs going with a "hot air" style that likely could bring in a greater amount of unrestricted air. I'd love to hear more thoughts around this. To me and many others who are fairly knowledgable of turbo cars, volume > air temp, since the air gets darn hot going through the turbo anyway.

- Related to the above, does this support that BMW's bottom end (or the whole box design in general) is quite effecient?

- Also related to the above, an intake from Dinan or BMW Performance were the TWO cases where I was willing to yank the stock airbox from the intake hoses and isntall something differently, because I find it a royal PAIN to jam the stock box back in before a service visit. I just don't have the time or patience, so I was only going to do a "waranteed" box, and put it in once and leave it be. I just find it funny/ironic that after all this, you LEAVE the darn stock box in place. lol.

Can't wait for more info and specs. Should be interesting since now BMW is heavily rumored to be releasing one next month along with their in house tune.

Damn Bubbles. I swear that was the question I was going to ask, and you just one-upped me. I am down for this one as long as they don't want my first born, because I have none...

If I did not read it wrong, this an auxirially intake as in "in addition to stock intake piping"? So where is the stock snorkel? The picture seems to suggest its been removed maybe?

Steve just posts and never comes back for follow up questions. I guess someone will have to call to get answers, or we can wait until it is up on the web site.

Nice design. I am curious to see how it looks inside the airbox though...

The stock snorkel stays put but the airbox cover is modified. The additional snorkel may have some sort of quick release to allow for quick air filter changes. I'm only interested in this product if the intake can substantially lower air intake temperatures. Not sure how much it will help when ambient temps are 80-90 F.

Good question, but I'd gamble to say yes due to the stock intake remaining intact.

I had a similar design in mind... but just had an additional square filter on a cutout on the filter lid. And a cutout in my vorsteiner hood for cold air intake... but couldn't figure out a good design to keep the water out.

Dangit...

I've had the idea for a while to add an additional snorkel and filter to the airbox lid as a supplementary airflow path... was just about to show off some prototypes... looks like dinan beat me to it

the largest restriction on the stock system is the air has to take a U-Turn and go through the single stock filter from the stock snorkel... this can be verified by removing the airbox lid on the dyno, you get the same gains by just removing the lid as with the best dual cone intakes... (but, of course your air is unfiltered, don't try this at home )

Ohwell... looks like a neat system... too bad it will probably be $2,000
