Few 335 VS questions...
I have a few questions about a offer i was thrown at today, my friend who has a 1993 Rx-7 with ALL bolt ons such as downpipes exhaust intercooler etc upgrades with stock turbo boosting 12psi talking madd shit. He wants to race 40~130 and best out of 3 race. The bets $500 bucks is what he offered. He claims he has around 270whp and never ran a 1/4 before.
Who would win? I have a JB3 and DCI. Also few days ago i was on the highway and i met a space gray M3 with vented hoods and loud exhaust... As soon as i saw him i gunned it and he was playing catchup... We both slowed down and he pulled down his window and said "Super charged" and downshifted and floored it... His car was LOUD.One of the exhaust was closed..?. So i catch up and ask him if he wants to pull. So while cruising 70ish we both honk 3 times and gun it... I slowly pulled him by half ~ 1 car length and he couldnt pass me.. Second race was same.. I win by half to 1 car and stays that was. He than said "thats chipped huh" pretty fast and didnt want to race after that. I was really suprised how "slow" the M3 was.. I know i didnt have much edge on the car and didnt really burn the M3 but i thought i was gonna get burned. Anyone know how much power or how fast super charged M3's run? Im prety sure he didnt have much boost on that car. Does anyone know this person in tri states? Space grey M3 with vented hoods and NY plates i think. Just curious bout these stuff. Thanks |

Wow, that would actually be a close race. I think you might slowly pull on him. Throw is some 100+ octane and a NOS kit just incase he starts to get ahead. LOL, J/K

i think it might be a close race with the rx-7 if he really only has bolt ons..
i've been in a rx-7 with a street ported motor+ full bolt ons and even that one only had some 350-400whp ur biggest concern is their power to weight ratio.. they are light as phuck!! EDIT: keep us updated if it goes down

The are about 270hp stock. He is probably running higher boost too with those mods. I wouldn't race from a roll on, that would be their biggest advanatage. Use your torque from a dig. Definitely would want to be running map #7 and high octane.

The only way you could take a supercharged e46 me is if it was a Dinan sc or maybe a stage 1 AA. The VF kits put down 440whp for stage 1 and 500whp for stage 2... on 91 oct.
I'm guessing it was AA stage 1. For reference Drew's (dlsj5) old stage 2 VF m3 ran 11.5 at 122mph. Only a few AA m3's in the 11s. M3's don't do great in the 1/4 mile, but they are fast from a roll. I remember Drew being pretty much even with a modded Lambo Murci. |

I've run a modded rx-7 when I was completely stock. From a dig I was about a car length ahead until about 90-95mph where he pulled on me pretty hard.. there was no catching up at that point. If i had a tune there wouldn't be any question about it. I think by 90mph I'd have a big enough lead that it wouldn't matter what he did.

I had a 94' Rx-7 back in the day with all the bolt ons (ecu, IC, downpipe, midpipe, exhaust, intake). I am no drag racer and the car was set up for roadcourse stuff, but it would trap about 109-112 mph in the quarter at 12psi. Dynoed right at 300rwhp like this, and mine weighted about 2750lbs on certified scales.
It felt a lot faster than my stock 335i, but in reality a bolt-on FD rx-7 and a 335i with a tune should be pretty close. RX-7's are very finiky and I have seen very different results from full bolt-on cars (i.e. 250rwhp to nearly 350rwhp, just depending on tuning, health of motor/turbos, amount of boost, etc) Another point of reference is that I bought an 02' Z06 right after selling my Rx-7, and it really didn't feel any faster than the Rx-7 from 40-130 although I am sure it was a little quicker. |

I think I've seen the Space Grey E46 M3 you're talking about. It had the vented hood as well as the Vorsteiner CSL trunk and front bumper right? I've seen his car at Difeo a while back (when I had my E46) and his car was insanely loud. I'm surprised that you actually beat him considering how much power that guy should be putting down to the wheel. To find out who it is, I'm pretty damn sure he is on E46fanatics. I've seen his car posted in the photo section quite a number of times (part of a crew... Euro technik, euro projectz... euro something). As for the RX-7, with bolt-ons I don't think the E92 has a chance (weight, drive train loss with auto + AWD). With a few mods on your behalf (bolt-ons), and from a dig, you might have a shot. Like everyone said, the RX-7 is extremely light. Have fun out there and be safe! ![]()

![]() If its a best of 3 race you have him. No way his rotary lives through three WOT pulls. I am joking obviously, if it survives, it will be a good race.

compared to my 335i... well i will say the RX-7 felt a lot move lively in 2nd and 3rd gear.... but didn't seem to have the same top end as the 335... 0-30 my money is on the modded 335... 30-85 (2nd and 3rd for the rx-7) my money is on the rotary... 85-120 i'd bet about the same.... 120+... i'm thinking the modded 335 has the edge there.... that's says me based on driving both for a long time and based on nothing else ;-) ... no drag strips or dynos on either car... just know what they felt like... and how they launch...etc... (i remember in the rx-7 thinking... "wow, between like 50 and 80, you just think the speed you want, and you are there" ... the 335 doesn't quite do that for me... but i also remember the RX starting to slow around 130-135... while the 335 seems to keep pushing along ... at least till 150... dunno about after that.... |

it be a good race but who really knows what he has under the hood besides the claimed "all bolt ons". i know RX7s in the 500+ whp range (if so, u are done). if he is within 300 or so whp, you guys might be close but if not, i wouldnt be too confident with the 335. put some race gas in there and put it in map 7. oh and if the road gets twisty, well, then u wont even stand a chance. those things are consider one of the best handles cars EVER - when the engines aint blowing up of cousre..lol.
as for SCed E46 M3, i dont know how fast they supposed to be but goodjob nosing it out. |
