DSC problems

Hi guys,

I have an E90 320d, and this year the DSC light came on (along with the other traction control light ASC or something).

Now I have taken it to BMW to have it looked at, and two weeks later they are still struggling to come up with the solution!

I did read somewhere about the sensor in the steering colomn being a potential cause of these types of problems, anyone know of any other known causes of the tracking control completely not working?

Hardware failure? Maybe needs a whole ECU. It wont be the fist car. Ne0871 had a similar issue and had the whole ECU replaced.

Hi Guys,

New to the E90 and new to the forum, hope all are well.

Mine had the same fault in January. Local garage came up with a '5E20' fault code but didn't know what it meant; Dealer said that was nonsense and changed the ECU, which fixed the fault... until yesterday. She goes back to the Dealer tomorrow.

I'll let you know what happens

Jim

5E20 is also the fault code my Indi got when he checked the car!

BMW Swindon said they thought the traction control pump thing has stopped working, and they said it was a regular thing they where seeing in the last year. The part was £1800!!

Its with Woods BMW at the moment and they seem to have no clue, apart from blaming it on me having 18s on the car, to which I gave them a reply I cant repeat here!!!

DBX - I tried to do a search for the username you have mentioned but couldnt find anything.

I like the 18's on the car thing - esp when you can spec 19's on it from BMW!

Dealers really are retarded sometimes!

Yes, i had the same issue a while ago....it was really frustrating, both DSC and ABS were not working. The dealer tried different solutions before finding out the problem. They didn't change the whole DSC computer but only the ABS sensor from a wheel and also a media converter of the signal that is read with the ABS sensor and sent through an optical fiber to the DSC computer!....hope that helps

I knew Andrei would have the answer.

Mud, at least you can go armed with a little more knowledge now to the dealer.

Thanks chaps, the dealer seems adamant that the pump has failed, when I asked how they came to that conclusion (ie what tests have they done) they couldnt give me an answer.

DSC pump was replaced. Cost of approx £1800.

I sued the dealer i purchased the car from in the end and won in court the costs plus.....

I have heard that they now have a kit which repairs the pump rather than replacing it at a cost of £400.

wow. happy to hear you won in court. but i wonder if i can sue the dealer i got my car from.

i asked my local bmw dealer, and they said something about 20 000 SEK, which is a pretty amazing price, i can get a old driveable car for that kind of money.

so, if my crappy warranty (its useless, dont cover anything) wont work, and insurance wont fix it. i dont know what else to do. its alot of money

I had this problem .. on bmw e90 after 3 years old these lights come on. The traction control unit is knackered! its a serious hardware fault and the part needs changing. but its a bmw fault which they will not admit... my spealist bm garage says he has a lot of 3 yr old bm's coming thru with exact problem.

costs £1700 to fix but mention the word "goodwill" on the fone and they will happily fix it for £400-£500 ....
