Cyba tips fitted!
At last I have them fitted exactly as I want them. First off they were fitted and they were sticking out a lot too much and looked to 'chav boy racer' for me!
Dave @ Carmaster managed to get them right 2nd time after one of the other mechanics fitted them and they were sticking out too far. It was as much my fault as I should have been there to see what he was doing but foolishly I expected him to fit them as they are now and left him to it. Anyway fitting it had it's problems in that the diameter of the pipe on the tips is the same as on the 335d. Now it might be bigger or smaller on the 335i for which they are supposed to fit. Derek did tell me he wasn't sure if they would fit or not as they were for a different model. As you can see from the underneath pic there isn't much of the tip left, and the problem is that the pipe that comes out of the box curves and if you put the tip on it either sticks out or the curve makes the tip stick out sideways. So the problem is solved by using a bigger bore tube to connect the tip to the remains of the exhaust pipe. I chose the blue tips and I'm still not sure about them, it's only really noticeable up close and might be more at home on a more modded car but as the black kidney grilles are the only other external mod then I'm happy to leave it as it is. If you are thinking of having it done then you can be looking at around a £100 if you have to pay a mechanic to do them but if you are thinking of doing it yourself you wll need a hoist as you have to drop the exhaust down to work on it and then offer it up to see how itfits. Expect to take some time to do it, it ain't a 20min job! I went into town and parked up and when I returned there was a 335i parked next to me (badged) and comparing the two side by side a 'before and after' was interesting ![]() Thought I would share my experience with these and any comments appreciated negative or positive I don't mind! I thought the same, never really looked at them that close before.
I had thought of spraying some rust inhibitor paint and then some black heat proof paint inside. If they are stainless tips maybe the rust is coming fom the steel exhaust and the welding rod used as that may rust as well. |

Are you planning to unmount the tips? You should sand the inside of the tips and use some high-heat ceramin primer/paint to protect the inside from rusting ![]() |

i'm sorry to add additional negative comments to this thread, but they look aweful. the rust is comming from the welded area. the scrunched up metal inside the bores look terrible. theres not much wrong with the tips, bet internally it looks hideous.
i think that has made a £38K look shabby. sorry. Dario

I should have given them a good clean before it took the undeneath pic but I think it looks a mess because it's a bit dirty.

and they were cut off with a saw and then the tips have to be welded on otherwise they would fall off |

Dont worry dude........just give the outside a good wire brush clean and a wee rub of high temp paint.
Same for the inside if you can but dont get paint into the exhaust baffles. Not tragic but i cant imagine it would be good. Seemingly negative comments are good in that it shows people being honest dude and that they care...... Get it sorted and show us some after pics ![]() JJ |

The tips themselves look great,I've seen them on the mods forum.
It's a shame the installation was not as good as perhaps it should have been, as it does Derek no favours in terms of potential customers. As others have said, you can improve things though ![]()
